Title: prison records
Post by: David Pinkney on Monday 01 January 18 01:07 GMT (UK)
Is there anywhere i can find a date of a possible prisoner's time in jail around 1948-1950?

Is this is closed info or can a relative request the information, the person involved is deceased

Thanks

According to NA site

Prisoners records are opening date: 01 January 2067

I posted this on another tread :

'I have two late uncles who were caught by police when they tried to steal a van with a load of televisions in it in the mid to late 1960s. They did not realise that there were police officers  amongst the van’s cargo and they were arrested. They had a stay in Oxford prison for there trouble.
I think that it took place in London or the Home Counties to the west of London.
How can I substantiate this story?'

in the hope that somebody might be able to find more details about the case. I feel that the local newspapers of the time would have reported it but have so far been unable to find anything. In the light that the uncles are dead, I do not see any reason why I should not have access to any records of them.

David, please excuse me for piggybacking your thread but I feel that if we unite our cause somthing might turn up.

See Prison registers and calendars of prisoners (1770-1971)

My great grans file was available at the national archives and she was a serial killer in the 1950's,
the file had statements, letters, photos, etc , and we found that just by searching her name in the general search on there, so maybe yours might have something similar.

Then you will know that it is ‘just’ a matter of looking in the right places. Good luck. Have you tried posting a letter to the relevant prison?
