Title: Date and tidy for 3 girls in hats
Post by: japeflakes on Tuesday 02 January 18 15:30 GMT (UK)
Could anyone suggest a date and or provide a tidy/colour for these 3 please?

I would say it was Edwardian.

Thank you.  Trying hard to work out who they might be. So the 10 year old born around 1890 ish or?

The girl on the left has a younger looking face but looks to be the same size as the girl on the right. My guess is 10-12 for the older two and 2-3 for the younger one. The older ones born 1890-1900.

It's hard to date children because the sailor dress style had a long life and clothes were often handed down. I have two postcard photos of children dressed similarly dated 1903 and 1905. After a closer look in Photoshop I wouldn't rule out twins.

I think their looks/dress says "maybe/maybe not/probably" sisters. But I don't think you would see such familiarity in a pose if they weren't sisters. So, yes! :D

Think I followed that :-)

There is big age gap between them so either there were siblings who died in between or the little one could be their niece. I don't see a strong resemblance between the older girls and the little one as she is much darker.

Or perhaps boys in between, photographed separately? :) Lots of possibilities unless you have some contenders in mind, JF.

a tidy and colour from me. looks like sisters and a neice or maybe a half sibling from a 2nd marriage?

Great stuff team.  At the moment who they were is a mystery but the more info I have the more likely I might be able to name the 3 hat girls. ALL ideas add to the "fact file" and the restores give new life to an old re-discovered small photo.

Could the one in the middle have been adopted maybe?  I think he/she looks very different and seems to have darker skin and big dark eyes (as Carol has commented) - Very attractive looking.  the two on the side seem to be showing her/him off.

I think on balance I would say her . . . . ;)

My euro's worth  :)

It's circa 1905. The young one is a boy and there is a similarity between him and the girl on the right.  The girl on the left has some different features but, on balance, he's their little brother.

I would agree with that date Carol.
