Hi,
I am tracing Mary ROSE born 1832 Croydon Surrey, first husband Francis GRIMSLEY, second husband Francis FAWLEY.
As Mary FAWLEY she boarded the Panmure with husband and daughter Emily bound for Australia. Unfortunately she died while at sea (off the coast of Brazil) on 19 June 1887. I have a copy of the passenger list which shows her death.
I was trying to find out if a death cert would have been registered, but the only record I have found is on Find My Past. It shows a different birth year :
Fawley Mary b1838 d1887 New South Wales Deaths 1788-1945
Location : Marine, New South Wales, Australia
Would she have been buried at sea?
Do you think 'Marine' records a death at sea? If so, could someone look it up please?
If death registered can I order a copy cert?
Any advice gratefully received
Thanks

Deaths at sea
From March 1856 the NSW Registry required masters and commanders of British and Colonial vessels arriving in Sydney to record deaths that occurred on the voyage.
The official record was filed by the registry in separate volumes known as the Marine Registers.
Searching the index shows following
FAWLEY MARY 13540/1887 AGE 49 Died at sea MARINE PDF available
You will need to buy the certificate from the registry to find other details such as the date and cause of death and the latitude/longitude where the death occurred etc...
Surgeon’s journals contain a wealth of information - entries are very detailed especially in the event of a birth or death at sea..........
