First may I wish all Rootschatters a peaceful 2018. My family history New Year resolution is to find where my great-grandmother was between her birth on Mull in the 1840s and her marriage in Cardross, Dunbartonshire on 31 December 1867, to Peter Wilson. The facts I have are these:
Name: Hannah McLean Father: Duncan McLean Mother: Catherine Boyd. Place of Birth: Shiaba, Ross of Mull. Family appear on the 1841 census there as McLaine. From information received from the Mull Historical Society, Shiaba was cleared in the late 1840s with some travelling by ship to Greenock and others to Nova Scotia. I cannot find the family in 1851 or 1861. According to the information on her Marriage Certificate both her parents were still living in 1867.
It is a real sadness to me that while I have files of information on parts of my family much further back I cannot find my great grandmother's family. I have the information from the OPR and I have information on her sister Margaret, a Dairymaid, who also lived for a time and died in Cardross. I hope that I have given enough information. I have her marriage and death certificate information and all the census records from 1871 onwards. Thank you in advance for any help. isk

Hi Isk can you give the details of the 1841 census as the only marriage between a Duncan McLean and Catherine Boyd is in 1824 if this is them then they would be rather old to have a child in 1840's

Hello Wendy and Monica
Very many thanks for your interest. Yes that's the family in 1841. Haven't checked the Hector in 1851 and the one at New Monkland in 1861. Believe me I am clutching at any tiny possibility. I am due a visit to the Genealogy Centre at the Mitchell Library next week and will certainly check these two leads.
Thanks again to you both. isk

Hi,
There are details of this family on the website that I run Mullgenealogy.co.uk which might help.
Details are recorded under the alternative name for Hannah which is Una.
Best wishes for 2018.
Ian in Tobermory, Mull
