Title: Elizabeth Wood[s]
Post by: MattD30 on Sunday 07 January 18 01:53 GMT (UK)
I am hoping someone could double check for a christening for me.

I am looking for the christening of Elizabeth Wood [or Woods] who married Thomas Wise of Throwley. They were probably married in between 1650 and 1655 as their daughter Susan was christened in 1656. Thomas was born in 1628 and so I guess Elizabeth was born between about 1615 and 1630ish.

Elizabeth appears to have died in 1679.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Hi

Thanks for that suggestion. I've had a look at a map and Milton seems a little too far away from Throwley at about 30miles.

That was no distance for Townies to travel out to the Villages for work. Or probably a farm boy coming into Milton. It was a larger place than Faversham which was the local town to Throwley.
Throwley is only about 8 miles from Milton Regis (Nr Sittingbourne)

Ah ok that sounds more possible. I was thinking of Milton nr Sittingbourne but it looked too far away. It's surprising to hear that Milton was larger than Faversham, I would have thought it would be the other way around.

Many thanks again and I'll look into this one.

Had another look into this Elizabeth today and she appears to have had a brother named John christened on 9 July 1618. There is also a Richard, son of Edward, christened there on 21 September 1623, and a John Wood, son of Richard christened on 4 February 1621. It's possible that Walther [Walter?], Edward and Richard are brothers.

It looks like Walter/Walther was married to a woman named Mary Hollit on 11 September 1612, however the marriage appears on FamilySearch twice.

Walher Woode and Mary Hollit - 11 September 1612 Milton (near Canterbury), Kent

Wacher Woode and Mary Hollit - 11 September 1612 Milton (near Sittingbourne), Kent

I wonder if those two places are the same?

Not got any further with these yet though.
