Probably stating the obvious, but the presence of spurs on his boots suggest he rode a horse.

A possible match for one of the Service numbers -

William Bull
Service number   98360
Rank   Corporal
Regiment   Royal Field Artillery

That looks like the Army Service Corps cap badge to be honest.

It may well be Idris from your other post.

Frank.

Just to add, the A.S.C also used horses, hence the spurs and Idris being listed as a "Driver".

Frank.

88 men with service number 8920 in the medal cards, 6 with 98360, 24 with 40480 but none (that I can see) with combinations so I suggest not service numbers?

Agree with Frank, looks like ASC and bandolier and spurs suggestive of Horse Transport (which Idris Davies was).  (332 Company quoted in the other thread was part of the 38 Divisional Train, four ASC horse companies)

I read the bottom number as 3920, not 8920.

The numbers on the back of the post card are sums

40420 was written 40320

40   320 ignore the 40
98 360 ignore the 98
Gives
  320 plus
360
Result is 3920

Post Modified:
The 40 and 98 are another sum which has not been completed.

I was going to ask how sure we are that those numbers are service numbers? You would generally expect someone to write a name on the back of a postcard rather than just a service number - or at least both name and number.  :-\

Numbers may be unrelated to service as per tonepads "sum" suggestion. :)
