Hi all,
I am in need of some assistance in locating a baptism as I have so far been unable to locate one myself!
My 4x gt grandmother Ellen Mason (Elinor on marriage record) was buried on 17th Nov 1814, at St Peter, Stapenhill aged 67 years. This therefore gives a birth year of about 1746/47. I cannot find a baptism at all. Ellen married John Parker on 3rd Aug 1777 also at St Peter, Stapenhill.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards
David

Have you considered that she may not have been baptised in that area, there is an ellen mayson, Stoke on Trent Staffordshire, and an eleanor mason Rearsby leicestershire in baptised in that time. Parents did move and sometimes children were baptised in the home parish.Try looking for other Masons in Stapenhill and comparing parents' names also deaths of possible parents.I looked over the border in Burton upon Trent as some of my ancestors were from Stapenhill and appeared in Burton upon Trent registers and vice versa.

Hi Liz,
Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.
The thought re being baptised out of area had indeed occurred to me, I appreciate the suggestion though. I will certainly as you suggest check the Burton Upon Trent area, my thanks for that. I will also check for other Masons in Stapenhill as suggested.
My thanks again.
Kind regards

....and don't forget that Stapenhill IS in modern day Burton on Trent, as is Newhall...and Burton itself though in Derbyshire, used to be in Staffordshire...or is it the other way round....!!
