Title: Traveller's Inn at Failsworth

Dear Friends,
my inquiry is about Traveller's Inn of Failsworth which in the 1840's was property of Mr. David Taylor. To the best of my knowledge there was a Bowling Green next to the pub where different sports were held. Would highly appreciate any info on that subject. Thanks. Ruslan

From the The Era - Sunday 04 January 1846 under "Pedestrianism"
Pedestrianism was a 19th-century form of competitive walking, often professional and funded by wagering, from which the modern sport of racewalking developed.

thanks for sharing appreciate, yes peds/foot racers was sport number one in South Lancashire in the 1840-1860's.

The Public House shown at German Street could be the Traveller's Inn, which was at 238 Oldham Road in 1881. Google maps shows 238 Oldham Road at the same place https://goo.gl/maps/x7qe68mVaGQ2

The Traveller's Inn could have been where "The Lounge" is now https://goo.gl/maps/bfVdasyXWQ42

There are also various reports about pigeon shooting and bowls associated with the Inn around 1848 which you may have seen. I can attach if you'd like?

Also some reports about John TAYLOR from the Traveller's Inn - in 1861 rescuing a boy from the Rochdale Canal, and of his death in 1867.

This advertisement for an auction to be held next to the Traveller's Inn was to be at Mulberry Place, in a neighbouring property called "The Garret" - if that helps locate it.
