Title: Edith Mildred Taylor, Belfast
Post by: Mancunian194 on Thursday 18 January 18 20:39 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to find out about an Edith Mildred Taylor who died 11th June 1965, aged 53, and was buried on 14th June 1965 in plot C5 417, Dundonald Cemetery, Belfast. This plot is also the grave for Helen Drysdale Peffers (17/03/1876 - 08/03/1948) who married Gilbert Dempster Taylor (born 8th March 1874 in Haddington).

I know about Helen & Gilbert but Edith is new to me. FindMyPast has a birth in 1913 for an Edith M Taylor but I don't know if this is the same one as I don't have full access to FindMyPast.

Can anyone help me understand who Edith is and why Edith & Helen are sharing a grave?

Regards

Is she possibly their daughter,
I see they are in Cumberland in 1911,with one son
and is that your Gilbert's death in Carlisle in 1937,
Helens probate was granted many years after she died to her son,

Possibly a niece? If not a child. Or a daughter in law

Supposedly in Ireland a graveplots belonged to whoever retained ownership of the house

What do you know about Helen and Gilberts son Ernest? Did he marry?

The death certificate is available for a small fee of the GRONI search, and will tell you who the informant is and place Edith lived as well her marital status, which could help a lot!

Not always true for churchyards and certainly council cemeteries, such as Dundonald, will have rules in place to determine ownership of plots after last registered owner is deceased.

Wow. Thanks for solving it for me! I had found the newspaper article about Helen's funeral but hadn't found the one about Ernest getting married and also got side tracked by a previous answer about Edith Mildred Taylor!

BTW, what does the address "Roseville, Craigavad" mean? Craigavad seems to be a district of Belfast; is Roseville a road? Belfast street directories or Google maps didn't show anything - that I could find!

Thanks again for your efforts.

Roseville would be the name of the house. Samuel Milliken is listed in 1910 Belfast directory-
Milliken, Samuel, Roseville
http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/1910VD.htm
also 1918-
http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/1918VD.htm

Edith's brother-in-law killed WWII and gives his widow living at "35 Rosevale (Roseville), Craigavad" when she remarried in 1949-

Samuel Edmund Milliken "5 College Park East Roseville Craigavad Co Down"
https://ssl.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialsearch/BurialRecordDetails.aspx?RecordID=8087.5085

but 5 College Park East is in centre of Belfast  :-\

I'm still having difficulty finding out where & when Ernest Dempster Taylor died. I've tried the usual sources (ancestry, FindMyPast, Irish Geneology, etc) but no joy.

Can anyone help?

He must have died after 25 Sept.1956 (date he was granted probate for mother's Will).

If he died in Northern Ireland- N.I. deaths only go up to 1921 on Irish Genealogy. PRONI's database continues much later and includes death 50 year ago and older, although only last name & first name will be listed in index.

Indenture for Roseville mentioning some of the relevant names (sorry, 'ShrinkLink' wasn't working for me when I tried):

Ernest Dempster Taylor  his birth name was Ernest Thomas according to the GRO
Perhaps looking under that name for his death might bring a result

Hi Gaffy,

Link doesn't work; show some HTHL and mentions timeout. If you can explain the steps you used perhaps I can follow them?

How odd, it works for me, alternatively if you google (with the quotation marks and all) "ernest dempster taylor" you should get a hit back for a pdf under the title Assignment & Conveyance - estatecreate, that is what I linked to.

Still unable to find out when Ernest Dempster Taylor died. I've tried Ernest Thomas Taylor as well but all the documents I've seen use 'Dempster' rather than 'Taylor'.

One clue to the year he died might be from the indenture document found by Gaffy which has 1985 as the year a lease was reassigned (from Ernest Dempster Taylor). [That's my, probably wrong, interpretation of the document!]
