Ellen is in the 1881 census aged 9months. The photo is annotated 1890 but this does not look like a ten year old, any thoughts on the date please.
Happy hunting

Is it the transcription that shows 9 months, perhaps it's meant to be aged 19. As the Ellen in the photograph is obviously married, she is certainly more than 10 years old!
Perhaps you could give us the census reference.

Looks like late 1890s to me.

Ellen's Census entry RG/11 p892 f105 pg19. Ellen was married Aug 1898.
The handwriting along the bottom is my grandmother's, granddad was best mates with his Mellon cousin, she wrote these notes in later life and she's close enough that I can normally unravel but she's not generally spot on.

I've got a very similar one that was dated 1895-8.
I'll try and find it.

I agree...mid/late 1890s.

Probably an engagement or pre-marriage photo then. What do you think, Carol?

Yes it very well could be Gadget..she looks about 18ish...I'm sticking with the date offered...the sleeves got bigger towards the end of the 1890s and this young lady's sleeves look quite big.

Thank you one and all. Everything suggested is reasonable, and I think I'm looking at a teenage 3xGrt Aunt, so I'll run with a mid to late 1890s date range.
Again, thank you
