Post by: Branching out on Wednesday 31 January 18 00:54 GMT (UK)
Looking to see if any one has access to the following marriage between William Robert Currie and Marie Eugenie Marescaux (b:-  1906) married on may 26 1923 in Winnipeg. No idea whom Williams parents were and how old he was?
Marie's parents were Jean and Marie Marescaux.

Thanks

Births of other children all have mothers name of Jane Jackson and are pretty close to those of the census record for 1901.
Thomas 18 November 1884
John 15 December 1886
James 2 December 1888
Graham 17 September 1890

Canadian passenger lists
Left from Londonderry Ireland destination Winnipeg
John Curry 27 laborer
Jane Curry wife 26
Ship Peruvian arrived 3 April 1883.

If I have the right family.

There is a family tree on ancestry that has William Robert Currie's birth as 4 August 1893 even though the attached birth record says 8 April 1893.

polar bear, do you know if there is a similar site for Montreal?  My grandfather had a brother, Victor Edmund Mathews,  born there around 1886 , but we have never managed to find a birth date for him.

According to census info, it appears that he was born very close to either side of the date of his father's death in January 1886, at Montreal General Hospital.  Of course there's always a possibility that due to the father's death, that maybe the birth hadn't been registered at all, either with a Registrar, or maybe a Parish Clerk. It would have been a tough time for the mother, highly pregnant, with 7 other children, and her hubby in hospital, dying of rheumatism at only 39 years old, perhaps she wasn't coping well with all those concerns.

This has been the one long time brick wall that we (myself and my cousin), haven't been able to penetrate in 25 years of researching our family! It would be great if there was a similar type of site for Montreal!

jaybelnz....

At that time in Quebec there would only be parish baptism records. Civil registration only began in 1994 (yes!). One can order records through the QC government but for those years you are sent a copy of info in said baptism.

As you perhaps know, the QC records are in the Drouin Collection on Anc'y. I will lend another pair of eyes and see if I can spot anything.

Thank you PB.  I have picked up a few other records in the past for this family in the Druin Collection, but never this birth. It's great that you are prepared to look for something for Victor, and I really appreciate your offer!

Here's a wee bit more detail that may be helpful  - Victor Edmund Mathews was the son of Henry Maxwell David Mathews and Jane Dunnill/Dunnell. He was the only child of theirs that was born in Montreal, the rest being born in London England and Boston USA before they came to Canada.

They were Anglicans if that's any help!

It's possible that with the family just new in Canada, and with everything that happened, that Jane didn't know she needed to have the baby baptized so there may not be a record for you to have found. Thanks for the helpful extra info.
