Title: Death Jan. 1859 Bishopwearmouth
Post by: Westee on Wednesday 31 January 18 09:09 GMT (UK)
Hello
Does anyone have some more information about the death of John Bell whose death is registered Jan. 1859 in the Bishopwear Cemetery?
The Familysearch website does not go up this far.

The only information I can add is from the free index on Durham Records Online which states that his residence at time of death was 13 Hopper Street, and that he was 11 years old (this also available from the GRO Index)

Here's the full Cemetery Register entry (from Family Search).
John was the son of Robert Bell, a Turner.

Many many thanks.
Have also found Jane Bell, another relative who died in 1864.
Can someone post the Bishopwear cemetery burial registers from 1851 to 1855 please.
Looking for father, etc.

Oh. Many thanks.  Could you suggest a cemetery close by which would have  been used by the family prior to 1856.

St Michael's Bishopwearmouth seems the most likely place, for a start.

However I can't see that its burial records are online.

Yo could try Durham Records Online, which has the burials going up to 1856, but it's a pay-per-vieew site, so you would need to buy some credits to see the full entries. However the free index shows addresses and approx. dates of birth which might be some help to you.  https://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/NewSearch.php

I didn't know about the Durham records on line - so a nice one for me to work with. Thank you. However, did look for John (and there was one born in 1791 and died in 1851 but not him. I bought it just to check the website out).

I have since emailed Durham Record Office, and asked about the St Michaels Bishoperwearmouth records as I can't seem to find them anywhere.  Hopefully they can help.

Bishopwearmouth St Michael Parish Records are available on microfilm at Tyne and Wear Archives https://twarchives.org.uk/collection/user-guides-and-information (see 'Parish Registers on Microfilm')
and at Durham County Record Office http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lgb/

I can't see that the parish records are included in the online Durham Bishops transcripts or available via Family Search.

Durham Records Online has the burials at St Michaels up to 1856, so if the person you are interested doesn't show up there, he must be buried elsewhere  :-\

Have had no luck with finding him.  I ordered two on the Durham Records Online.  A John Bell buried Feb. 1855 from the workhouse. Aged 67 yrs. No occupation or anything else to give me conclusion either way; but I would say no, it is not him.  Just doesn't fit. He had worked all his life and seemed quite stable in his family life.
The other John Bell buried Sept. 1851 aged 60 yrs at Church St Laurence, Pittington. So definitely not him.
Exasperating to follow him from birth and then not to be able to find his death.
