Post by: casmith on Monday 05 February 18 19:16 GMT (UK)
I think that’s gonna be the way. I’m also researching my great grandmother Catherine Ryan 1879, born Ballingarry, Tipp. Married my great grandfather JohnObrien. Can I find weddings cer, no!!!!! They were both from Ballingarry, immigrated to Manchester. I’ve got 1911 census, that’s it!!!!! Lived in Manchester England.

I can’t see them in Manchester in 1911 :-\

Do their birthplaces show in 1911 as Ballingarry?

When did they marry? Was that Ireland or Manchester?

I think I have them now.

No, I can’t see a marriage either.

I wonder if this is Kate’s birth- awful writing but number 291

It will not let me see the birth record. In the 1911 census they have been married for 3 years. Twins John & William 2 years, Joseph 7m. Two lodgers. Address 3 High Burton Street. I know Catherine had a sister Mary. I don’t understand why I cannot find a marriage cert. they were Roman Catholic.

Yes, I found them, thanks,

You usually have to solve a captcha and then you will get the page.
Did you get that?
Irish Genealogy is a free site- very helpful. You have to go through a bit of a process but as I say it is free to use.

Are the ages in 1911 consistent with ages in any other records?

I have bothe death Certs of a John and Kate/Catherine. They are birthdate from them are within a year’ish. I know these are the correct death certs as they died on the same day but different years. Been to the grave as well.

So he was a few years younger?

Were the two boys twins, William and John? Do you have their birth records?

She seems to be known as Kate.....have you considered that as she was 8 years older than John, she may have been a widow when she married?  There is a marriage registered in Tipperary March Q 1908 volume 3 page 527 between a John O'BRIEN and a Kate REGAN.

The child Joseph shows mother’s maiden name as Ryan.
