Title: George Arthur Thompson
Post by: moiramount on Wednesday 07 February 18 01:39 GMT (UK)
I am trying to locate a George Arthur Thompson born England 1941, mothers maiden name Adams. As far as I know he was put into Dr Barnardo's home at Hull England after his mum died. He was sent out to Australia for adoption whilst he was very young. I have searched the Australian archives passenger lists and there was a Master George Arthur shipped out in 1947 to Fremantle on the Esperance Bay ship. It does not give his age but the address he was sent to was Bath Street, Manjimup WA. I don't know if this was the address of the adoptees as there was another little girl going to the same address.  He will be in his 70's by now and a possibility he could have passed on.  George was my grandma's brother and she spent years trying to find him, I made her a promise before she died that I would try and find what happened to him. If anyone has any info  I would be very grateful.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=720118.0  stickied thread at top of Australia board.   fingers crossed for you.

You need to modify your post to remove his name (from topic heading and body of post) as you note that you have no confirmation that he is no longer living,   :)

I am guessing there was not a number for the house in Bath Street Manjimup. Correct?

There is a burial at the Manjimup Lawn Cemetery for a man of the name.
His age at death does not tally with your information.

Died Bunbury
28/1/2004
Aged 70

The George Arthur THOMPSON aged 13 years ie born c1934 who arrived with a Mrs Laura THOMPSON 49 years and Miss Joan Margaret THOMPSON 21 years and arrived at Fremantle on the ESPERANCE BAY from England in Nov 1947 is obviously not your person of interest.  Their intended address was Bath Street, Mamjimup, WA

Sue has found the burial of this George Arthur THOMPSON at Bunbury.  I would suggest that Laura is his mother and they are at the same address at Bath Street, Bunbury on later rolls.  There is a Louis THOMPSON, Blacksmith living at the same address.  This may be their marriage in England.

Marriages Dec 1917
THOMPSON Louis    Rotherham 9c/1397
STONES Laura    Rotherham    9c/1397

Laura with elder son Frederick and dau Joan arrived in the UK in 1930 from Australia.  Obviously a visit home.

cupoflife has put

'WA marriage: 1962 #171 George Arthur THOMPSON and Janice Glenda FOSTER; East Coolgardie'

Can you obtain that certificate for more information on that George?

Marriage certs are restricted for 75 years in Western Australia unless you qualify under family access ie One of the parties of the marriage; child of marriage or other relative   Cost is AU$49

Thanks for the information.

Is it 30 years for the death certificate, and what would it provide then - names of parents or exact date of birth?

All the necessary information is on the link I posted.  Bit of a wait as the deaths were in 1992 and 2012.

On a WA death cert -Names of parents if known to the informant but not the exact date of birth; place of death and usual residence if death elsewhere; age and place of birth; marital status at time of death; name of spouse and when and what age and where married; how long in Australia and time in each state; names and ages children of any, both living and deceased at the time of the person's death; cause of death and and date and where buried.  That's all I can recall at the moment.

I have a couple of WA death certs from the early 1980's but bit late for me to dig them out now.

Looks like Moira has requested "post completed"
She didn't let us know whether our information was of use or interest.

Hope she did not miss the replies. :o That would be disappointing.

Hi

I am on my e-reader and cannot do live links BUT our OP has another thread re same chap and I think that one includes comments to show that earliest migration is 1953 and that this (Australian) thread should be deleted.  I could be mis-reading ... ???  ::)

Ah yes,
That must be it.

This is the link to the other topic.

Suggestion is that some initial information on the Original Post was not quite correct, so now the findings seem not relevant.

Reply #3 from cupoflife in this thread is the only relevant info since it was the man being traced.
