What information do you already have ?

Edward appears on the 1851 census of Wentworth County Canada with wife and children. 4 of those children listed were born in Suffolk England. Emily aged 3 was born Guelph Ontario.

There are a lack of passenger lists prior to 1865 so it unlikely we can find them listed.

Edward aged 40 years. born Suffolk Eng. Farmer.
Margaret aged 25 years born Suffolk Eng.
John aged 14 years born Suffolk Eng.
Charlotte aged 12 years born Suffolk Eng.
Margaret aged 11 years born Suffolk Eng.
Emily E aged 3 years born Guelph. Ont.

Anc tree shows John Leech parents Edward leech and Barbara Rhoda.
John Leech 1838  - Wickham Market, Suffolk.

1841 census Wickham Market Suffolk.

Edward Leech 25-29   Suffolk
Rhoda Leech 25-29   Suffolk
William Leech  9 Suffolk
Maria Leech 7 Suffolk
Robert Leech 5   Suffolk
John Leech 3 Suffolk
Charlotte Leech   1 Suffolk

Looking at the 1852 census.....

Edward appears to have a very young wife, age 25, and I think her name is Mary A rather than Margaret? She is too young to be the mother of the older children. The GRO index has MMN as Barber for Charlotte and little Mary A. There is a marriage of an Edward Leech and a Rhoda Barber in 1832 in Suffolk which would match the 1841 census posted earlier.

When Edward's son Samuel b. 1852 marries for the first time in 1875 his mother is given as Mary, and as Mary Leader for his second marriage in 1902. His first marriage was to Hannah Scrimshaw, daughter of Joseph and Susan Scrimshaw. His second marriage was to a widowed Elizabeth Stocking nee Flagg.

Edward marries Susan in 1866 and they have several children. I think her name is quite garbled in the marriage transcript and should actually be Scrimshaw. She can be found in Mosa in the 1861 census with 4 children including George and Jerimiah, who are with the family in 1971. I think her first child with Edward was probably Elizabeth.

I can't at the moment find a death for Rhoda in England or Ontario. Ontario, of course, not having civil registration until 1869 doesn't help. But to me it looks like she died after the birth of Mary Ann (she could even have died at sea on the journey over), Edward married Mary Ann with whom he had several children and who must have also passed, and then he married Susan in 1866.

Anyway, food for thought.

Thanks PB - Sorry the wife was Mary and not Margaret on the 1851 census (my mistake) - - I couldn't find a death for Edwards first wife in the UK or Canada either.  :'(

She could lay in Wardsville Cemetery with Edward and the rest of the family just not photographed.

You might find other family in Glencoe (Oakland Cemetery) there is Elizabeth Leech buried there.

Also, Edwards farm was between Newbury and Glencoe on the 14th Concession across for the railway tracks.

If you are looking for more info contact the Glencoe Historical Society.  Glencoe is actually closer to the farm than Wardsville.   They have info on all the Mosa cemeteries.  I would look at Leitch as well since it is possible that the two families have blended together in the archives.

Although it says Edward, Mary, and Robert were b. Scotland, this does look like the family in 1861. Emily Ellen is down as Ellin, the younger children match the next census.

They are living in Southwold Elgin now.

Earlier in the thread you have info that the MMN od Edward's children Charlotte and Mary was Barber.

You have Edward in the 1841 census with presumed wife Rhoda and children.

There is a probable marriage in 1832 for an Edward Leech and a Rhoda Barber. This took place at Pettistree, Suffolk. Added: date was 04 Feb.

You have Edward's marriage to Susannah that gives his parents as Samuel and Deborah.

Edward's birth year appears to be about 1812. There is a possible baptism 09 Aug 1813 at Wickham Market, Suffolk; parents Samuel and Deborah.

There is a baptism for a possible brother William in Wickham Market. Birth given as 25 Aug 1815 and baptism 28 Aug 1815; parents Samuel and Deborah.

This looks like it might be Samuel and Deborah in the 1841 census, living in Petistree, Suffolk.

Saml Leech 60
Deborah Leech 60
William Leech 25

There is a possible marriage for a Samuel Leech and a Deborah Capon 22 Nov 1805 in Parham, Suffolk. This couple could be the parents of Edward and William.
