I'm attempting to find out a bit more about the Calwell family and have managed to trace some of them to Cork in both 1901 & 1911 census records wherein his wife Kate/Kathrine appears with two daughters born in East India/Bengal/Punjab when WC was a Private in HM's 63rd Regiment. By 1901 census, Kate was already a Widow with another 2 children born 1883 & 1885 in Cork. I can't find anything further about WC or Kate's maiden name. Can anyone help with such things as his dob/dod, marriage date & place and Kate's place & dod, please? Anything about the two older daughters wouldn't go amiss. The son, William (Bookbinder) moved to London area, married and had at least 3 children; the youngest daughter, Rosanna, died in 1905.

Many thanks for all those pointers. From Catherine's age of 75 it appears she may have married aged 12...possibly she was born earlier and that's another thing to discover, although their mc states she was a minor and what age range might that cover? Census returns suggest she was born Waterford c.1855 and that might indicate 1854 as a possibility and she'd still be a minor marrying at 16, wouldn't she? Another small snippet from her daughter Annie's mc suggest William Calwell senior was a soldier in 1st Manchester Regiment in 1909.Yet another possibility despite his wife declaring her widowhood by 1901! All those helpful suggestions have taken me to parts/sources previously unknown so thanks again.

You have to make allowances for age. Many did not know how old someone was when they died, etc..

Father in Canada.
FindMyPast has some army pension payment records for William Callwell of 63rd Regiment, pension paid at Kinsale and/or Cork. A couple are annotated "To Halifax Nova Scotia"
FindMyPast also has Army discharge papers for William Callwell of 63rd Regiment, born in the parish of "Loughcorr" near Ballycastle, Antrim. Nearly 21 years in India with the 77th and 63rd regiments. Discharged in June 1881 aged 40 years and 7 months.
Also on FindMyPast are baptisms for son Hugh Alexander (Hazaribaugh 1873) daughters Annie (Meean Meer 1877), Margaret (Jullundur 1879) and Elizabeth Jane (Jalandhar 1881). There's a boy William John born Hazaribaugh in 1872 but the parents are recorded as William and Jane - possibly an error.
