just wondered if I have scanned or done something wrong with this photo?
any advice is welcome

Hi Ryan
There's nothing wrong with the file. It could be that yours got lost in the postings. I must admit that I'd missed it until I saw your second post.
It's badly damaged so could take restorers a good while to repair.

I'm just kicking it off with a tweak to the contrast and minimal stuff. I don't feel as though it should be 'sanitized' too much, given the trade.
edit to add: Now I've seen it on the page.... I may have to spend a bit more time :-\

In photo background , it looks like a circus board, seal carries a ball
-
thanks for the great work could this be the same man?
-
Looks like a match to me.... :)

Fantastic works folks that is brilliant
Thank you have your time I have some more for you will post soon
Many thanks
Ryan
-
I think it is the same man too.
-
Yes I agree with the others that this is the same man, a good looking fellow. Same stance, same shape face, maybe slightly younger in the photo without the horse (more puppy fat on his face).
-
Many thanks for your input this is brilliant as this photo would be around 1910 have few photos I would like to post but will add them over time to give everyone a chance
Thanks again everyone for all your help on this one
Ryan

If you think you know who this was and it is c.1910 you should be able to confirm his occupation on the 1911 census.
Jennifer

Thanks very valuable point
Il check this out

I agree big thanks to everyone involved
Ryan
-
Did you find him on the 1911 census?
Jennifer
-
I will try and get that done tomorrow currently at sea and signal slow. realised I can access the Scotland’s census for 1911 on Scotland’s people website never realised it was only England 1911 census available on ancestry
Will post the info I find out
Also found out the man with horse his father died at age 48 so i believe the man above had been working on farm to support family he had only been 11 years approx in 1898 be interesting to see what 1911 says
Thanks again - ryan

I have seen the marvellous job you all do restoring photos, what software is used and what gives the best results please?
-
I use Photoshop Elements 14 but it is not so much about the package you use, but more about how you use the tools. I have seen some pretty good results using free photo editing software such as "Gimp".
It's all about about practise and familiarising yourself with the tools and their capabilities.

This was a previously edited photo ,on roots chat
Can I request a fresh date and age of the man please
Ryan
-
24 years of age
-
I'd say a bit younger as he looks very 'fresh faced. Maybe around 20 - 18 to 22

I thought I'd seen this before:
Threads merged.
I think you thought it was taken circa 1910 on that thread :-\
Gadget

Yes but was hopIng for a fresh opinion and not to mention the last post as people’s
Options might reflect
Of date and age , what’s everyones guess on era which sort of year ?
Can the clothing IndicAte anything
Ryan
-
The clothing is classic workman's clothes that could be Edwardian or a few years before and after. Maybe 1898-1814***. I meant 1914!
It's not encouraged to put up the same request again.. I note that you asked for an approx date on the previous thread.
-
Thanks gadget I apologise
And your right enough
My mistake
Ryan
-
I would say the war years and maybe up to 1920. I would guess his age to be late teens early 20s.
Carol

Ryan
On the other thread, we identified this man as the same person:
Threads merged.
Who is he and when was he born?
Gadget
-
The man in the link we decided he was James smith the son of William
James born 1887 and was a “ Carter in 1911 cenus
Would this add up ?
Sorry my notifications don’t seem to be working so taking longer to reply
Ryan
-
As time has went on I was also hoping it could be his father but clearly it’s not , thanks
Ryan
-
If it is him, and we reckon he was late teens early 20s in this photo, the photo would have been taken 1906-1911.
The pic would fit with a possible carter occupation. For example, he was getting his horse shoed' or just after he'd unhitched the horse/before he hitched it.
This would fit but is just my view.
Gadget

I agree with Gadget...it could well be him.

Many thanks gadget and carol
I appreciate the opinions and information greatly
