hello South Africa
Looking for death certificates for these people;
John George White 17 May 1892 age 87 near Bolotwa, Queenstown
Amelia White June 1884 age 78
Not sure where to find or get copies? Grateful for any help. Thank you

Hi
There wont be an official death certificate unless they left an estate at those dates
This estate files that is possible
MOOC 6/9/306 1625 WHITE, JOHN GEORGE. DEATH NOTICE. 1892 1892
cannot find one for Amelia - here is a link for the above file

I see there is a notation next to Amelia's name "Not Reported", so possibly there is no official Death Certificate for her.
-
Thank you both for your replies and the link to certificate. That is him ok.
The person signing the document Charles Frederick Patten was a missionary at Bolotwa. His wife Louisa was one of the daughters listed. I think she died in 1929 - CFP dying in 1917?. One of their daughters married a Mr Cassidy.
Amelia, the wife who died in 1884 maybe buried in Bolotwa or nearby towns. However, I haven't found any headstone or indeed burial place for JGW or Amelia.

Hi
Can't find one for CFP but this is likely his son, parents names fit, place of birth given as Bolotwa

His will is attached, as well as the distribution account. Just click onto the next image

thank you

Unfortunatelly you may not find a gravestone - a lot of the cemeteries in SA have been let go to ruin and have been vandalised. There is an on-going project to photograph memorials and the photographs are being published on eggsa.org - that mission has not been photographed as yet.
-
Is there an archive or library in the Bolotwa/ Queenstown area that might have information on settlers from 1870 onwards?
-
If I were to hazard a guess I would think that sort of info would more likely be held at the Port Elizabeth Archives, depending on what information you are looking for.
I don't know if this will be of any help, not sure where you have done searches

You could also try geni.com, they have a lot of South Africa info on there as well.

thank you Pampoen. Sadly, this is not my people. Frustratingly similar names. Thank you for looking and posting.
Amelia and John George apparently arrived in SA in January 1874 from England. I don't know where they arrived bit the came from Liverpool in England.
-
The two ports of arrival at the time would have been either Cape Town or Durban. It is possible they landed at Durban as it appears he may have had his passage sponsored and they would have travelled inland from there.
Have you tried to find out which vessel they arrived on? That would give the port that they disembarked.
-
Note what you say thank you.
I am not sure of ship etc. How would I go about that?
-
Find My Past has passenger lists that are online and searchable, but it is a pay site.
My apologies, have your thread mixed up with another one :-[ :-[
They would likely have landed at Cape Town, it was the port that most ships stopped and then onto Durban.
Will have a look and see what I can find, but you can post a query and perhaps someone will be able to track them down for you.

Regarding John George White's death on 17 May 1892 and burial. I appreciate what you said re gravestone records, but are there any church records in local archives in Bolotwa or Queenstown?
-
Church records were held by the individual churches themselves. There are some available on Family Search
-
Do you know names of churches in Queenstown in 1892? thanks
-
The oldest one apparently is a Wesleyan Methodist Church, a lot of the early settlers seemed to have been married/baptised/buried by the Wesleyan Church

Methodist and English Registers are held by the Cory Library in Grahamstown
