Three times this B name appears but can we agree what it is?
p7
"was met by two fellows Brün a pupil at Rectory & the schoolmasters son"
p8
"church ways! Brün seems particular to dislike Mr B[owker] since “the minister” saying
hes got harsher & makes him & the other fellow both good sizedfellow men
be in the house by 9 oclock"
p9
"They seem to appreciate the superior refinement of Brün over [space] at the rectory"
The p8 example is given in context with the xxx between 'good and 'men'
I hope Karen McDonald spots this and enjoys the exercise. Thanks for any help.

It's Brün - but does he mean Brown?
-
Thanks ShaunJ, I agree that it is Brün but I find it odd that the writer was so pedantic about the umlaut. Otherwise the writer is careless about dotting 'i's and crossing 't's.
There is only one other 'brown' as a possible proper name and even then it is a lc 'b'.
Odd.

I wonder if it was Bruen - and your diarist has substituted an umlaut for the "e" in the German fashion.
-
I went out for walkies and missed the new post. :)
Looks like Brün to me. Clear as a bell.
As you say, Deskman: This really is a pedantic Umlaut, in view of his usual habit of not crossing his "t" or dotting his "i"...
Best regards from sunny Stürzelberg (we are away from home for a couple of days, so I can't write "Northern Germany" today.)

...both good sized men ???
The "s" is the same as in "since" in the line above (and both are lower case).
Hmmm...I'm somehow not convinced about "the minister"...
I can't help but see an "a" (or possibly even an "x") in the middle!
-
Thanks for your empathy on Brün, your suggestion of sized - that must be it and for your challenge on 'Minister' Karen McDonald.
I attached a well lit high res image and tarraaaa... its museum
Brilliant.
I hope Karen McDonald spots this and enjoys the exercise.
Enjoy Stürzelberg. I will away and look it up.

There's not much of it. But it's nice. :) And great for walkies with the dog. ;D
(Glad I could be of help!)
