Title: Bazil Grange, Liverpool in 1861 census?
Post by: bugbear on Sunday 18 February 18 10:41 GMT (UK)
I have acquired a cookbook, inscribed for Bazil Grange, 1862; the book was sold by a Liverpool stationer (their sticker is on the first page), and there is indeed a Bazil Grange in West Derby.

Quite a big pile!

Googling says it was once owned by a "John Caton Thompson of Bazil Grange,West Derby"

it shows nicely on the 1901 OS map;

But I have failed to find it in the 1861 census. Can anyone find it?

On an 1851 Street Index, Brazil Grange is in Sandford Street.

Maybe that may help?

There are a couple of newspaper articles (marriages) for the daughters of Thomas ROGERSON giving the address as Bazil Grange.

Earlier mentions are for Bazil Grange..Sandfield Park.

I found Bazil Grange (labelled) in 1871 census;

Class: RG10/3848/78 Page: 39

James Lister, Banker, b1804, Lancs.

Backtracking to 1861, he was living in a different part of town.  :-[

Sign in to view this Family Search link showing the relevant pages from the 1861 census. The addresses recorded are quite limited in just describing the general vicinity and not the names of individual properties so you have various properties under the titles Sandfield Park, Sandforth Road, Mill Lane etc:-
