Title: Naval War Prizes
Post by: iwccc on Tuesday 20 February 18 23:39 GMT (UK)
Hello, I am looking for information on how the Naval War Prizes worked in World War 1. Did each sailor get a share of captured ships?  Roughly how much would this have been and how often was it offered?   When did this custom finish in the Navy?
I am particularly interested in the custom for WW1.  Were all sailors on the conquering ship rewarded or did it go into a general Navy fund for distribution to all sailors of the British Navy?  Thank you

There are many records in the National Archives - a search on their catalogue generated a good few hits, some looking fascinating.
Interesting stuff at https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/36t2ob/when_did_the_british_navy_stop_awarding_prize/ and http://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishLGNavalPrizeMoney.htm
