I am researching the above family and know that Kristian/Christian Gudmundson born in 1881 in Reykjavik married Mary Elizabeth Hack in Boston, Lincolnshire, England in 1907. Can anyone help with finding his parents and siblings? Many thanks in advance. David

What does the 1907 marriage give as parentage?

Iceland, even today, uses patrynomics ;D
So, Kristian's father will be called Gudmund, and his (Gudmund's) 2nd name (surname) will be his father's name, with "son" added.
If Kristian and Mary had followed the patrynomic system, their sons would have been called Kristianson, and their daughters would have been called Kristiansdottir.
The upshot is that you are going to need certificates to progress this line.

I do know Kristian & Mary had 9 children. The first son born was named Christian Robert who died in infancy and so did the next son of the same name. They decided on Douglas, George & John for further sons.

Same patronymic system as Shetland but there the names became fixed a couple of hundred years ago. Too confusing for lairds, the military, ministers, teachers & clerks.

I have an Icelandic sister-in-law.
Her father is named Thor - and so she is called Thorsdottir.
So, that's where my info comes from ;D

KG, I believe they have an app thing in Iceland where if you pull a burd at the dancing U can instantly check if you're cousins! ;D
