hi, can anyone tell what this word is please, it should be a place name, probably staffordshire. ive had no luck trying to match it up. thanks.

Are you sure it's a place-name? Could it be an occupation i.e. soldier?

ahhh.... i read it as (wedding resistration in uttoxeter 1699) edward millington OF 'souldios. ill re check, because i was assuming it was a place name not an occupation.

heres the full transcript. see what i mean? to me it reads "of" , suggesting he wasnt from the same parish as his bride katherine swan.

In common with Dawn M I read it as 'Edward Millington A Souldior', i.e. it is an occupation not a place-name :)

Correcting myself: I see that that the penultimate letter is actually an 'e', so it reads 'souldier'
