Title: Car and date
Post by: scobie79 on Friday 23 February 18 16:49 GMT (UK)
Hello Rootschatters.
I am hoping that someone out there is an expert on old cars, as I am trying to date a photograph from the models caught on camera. The area itself has changed little over the years, so identifying these vehicles is my best chance of pinning a date to this picture.
Many thanks,
Scobie

KP 3319 was issued from May 1928 to Oct. 1929 by Kent County Council. Could it be a Fiat 509?

TN 3081 ( or TN 3031)  was issued from Jan. 1925 to May 1929 by Newcastle on Tyne. Could this be a Bullnose Morris? or perhaps not as has been pointed out below

Hi,

KP 3319 was indeed a Kent County Council registration issued late 1928, and from the external magneto at base of radiator would indeed seem to be a cca 1928 Fiat 509. From the angle of the photo it is a little difficult to say if it is the 509A Tourer (Torpedo) or two-seater (Spider)

TN 3081 was indeed Newcastle County Borough Council registration issued cca 1927. The car has too few wheels to be a Morris even though it has a bullnose type rad. This car is a tree-wheeler from Malvern, being a cca 1927 Morgan Aero. The home made bumper and mud flap are covering the precise make of the engine.

Good evening to you all.
Having read the responses to my initial post, I think that if I now date this photograph as about 1930 it will be fairly accurate. I thank you all for your kind replies, with a special commendation to Vinter for the identification and detail of the vehicles involved.
Many thanks,
Scobie

Good morning,

It has to be the spyder I think. You can see a very square looking seat back at the rear, this is the "dicky seat" lid in the raised position. The tourer had a normal rear seat which would be in front of the folded down hood.

We no longer have an expert on morgans in the village. He drove a morgan all over the UK on holiday with his mate for the past 40 odd years until he unfortunately had to go in a home where he passed away. Anything he didn't know about morgans wasn't worth knowing. If the car in the photo is still with us then he would most likely have known it from club meetings.

Thanks John915 for your additional confirmation of the earlier responses. I am now confident in adding the date and vehicle information to this photograph. Thanks again to everyone.
