Post by: JDub18Lh on Saturday 24 February 18 12:03 GMT (UK)
Looking for any information relating to Richards family of Brockley SE London. 1920's and 1930's
The mother walked out leaving at least 4 children who may have been taken into a 'Home' or Fostered. In 1924 they were Emmie May age 7. Joan age 5. Phyllis age 3. Barbara age 13 months.
If you have any knowledge or connection please contact me.

You’ll have a better chance of good responses if you set out what you know about the parents.

Presumably this is the Richards/Fleck family with the following Lewisham births showing on FreeBMD/GRO:

Jun qtr 1908: Doris Eileen Richards mmn Fleck
Dec qtr 1909: Cyril Stanley Richards mmn Fleck
Dec qtr 1911: Edna Florence Richards mmn Fleck
Sep qtr 1913: Milly Beatrice Richards mmn Fleck
Mar qtr 1917: Emmie May Richards mmn Fleck
Dec qtr 1919: Joan M W Richards mmn Fleck
Sep qtr 1921: Phyllis Richards mmn Fleck
Sep qtr 1923: Barbara Richards mmn Fleck

Doesn't come up as a 'match' on ancestry because they have shown the reference for Dorothy as 'page 1846' rather than '1849'.    If you look at original GRO page it is clearly '1849'.

Yes, looks like FreeBMD is the source of the error which has then been carried through to Ancestry - I have submitted a correction to FreeBMD.

Thank you all for your posts. I have full details of this family. I am related to them.
The mystery is what happened to the children between 1924 and 1939 after which I have full details.
No one to ask in family all deceased.

It’s hard to help if you don’t provide the details which you already have.

What documentation do you have from 1924?

Are you saying you know where they all were in 1939?

Hello avm 228. Are you a researcher or related to the Richards? I know where most of them were in 1939 from the 1939 Register. It would take ages to give all the info I have.
Briefly. Stanley and Dorothy Richards had 8 children 7 survived to become adults.Their births were from 1908- 1923. All deceased. If you reveal your interest I may give further details.

I don’t have any interest; they are nothing to do with me.  Like others on the thread, I was just trying to help you, for no other reason than that is what we do here on Rootschat.

Unless any of them did anything that warranted a written record being made of the nature that would have survived and been archived somewhere - eg got married, had a child, died, left a Will etc between the years of 1924 and 1939 , then there wont be anything to find to tell you where they were!

There is a possibility of a marriage for Emmie:
Jan/Feb/Mar 1938 Lambeth ref 1d 360  Emmie M Richards to Reginald F Cook

Have you pursued that?

I wont look for any more, as we don't know what you already have, so don't want to spend time duplicating.
Like avm, I am not related - but as said, am willing to help if you can tell us more of what you are looking for and what you already have!

If you have full details after 1939, even if they are all deceased, their children or grandchildren or great-grandchildren are alive and may be able to help you.  How many of them have you found?
