I wonder if anything is known of the family of Stephen and Ann Long of Kingston Deverell? Their daughter Sarah married a Robert Newton, who died at Cerne Workhouse in 1905 and then married George Foot in 1916. I don't know if she had a job?
Many thanks for any help.

I wonder if there are any addresses and further information regarding Robert and Sarah and their children and occupations? I had been told that he was a seaman but can find no record of him ever being at sea.
After Robert's death, I understand that she lived in Cerne Abbas. I also understand that she continued to live in her own property even after marrying George Foot, late in life (both dying in 1923). Any of her addresses would also be wonderful.
Very many thanks

In 1851, 1861, 1881 & 1901 Robert is an Agricultural Labourer.
As yet cannot see any evidence of Robert being a seaman, however have not located him in 1871. ???
Sarah's address appears to be Plush, Dorchester, Dorset.

Very many thanks. Foot is quite a Dorset name and the George who died in 1923 was not my George Foot who also died in that year but at the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester and buried in Up Cerne near Cerne Abbas. I have a small orbit for him. I can't tell which newspaper it is from but it appear not to be on the National Newspaper Archive.
Very many thanks for your very helpful info.

J Jen. I missed the info you tracked down regarding Sarah's addresses. That does help me a lot and I will visit. A big thank you. Hopefully one of the Newton relatives will see these notes as I don't have a picture of Sarah. The Cerne Abbas history group is a active society and possibly a picture outside a house in Cerne Abbas will turn up-unlikely but I can hope.
Very many thanks for all your help,

I believe that I have now discovered Robert Newton married Sarah Long in 1875 in the Dorchester area. I would love to know more and track down the certificate. Many thanks for any help.

Hi Mark,
I've not found any details of Robert Newton's marriage in 1875 with the sources available to me. Perhaps it would be advisable to put a request on the Dorset board where someone may be able to help you.

Thanks for trying. It does .seem a mystery where the marriage took place. Mark

Very many thanks. I wonder if it is possible to find out the parish they were married without ordering a marriage certificate? Robert lived mainly in the Buckland Newton/Mappowder area.
-
If they married where Sarah was, that would be Plush.
Interestingly on the scan of the marriage registers it has page 12 and then goes to page 15. And of course 1875 is on the missing pages!!
-
Many thanks and Plush seems a vg informed guess. Just my luck though that the pages are missing!
Thanks again, Mark
p.s. I had thought that to be a possibility, although I believe in 1871 she was in Walcot in Bath working in a penitentiary. I am intrigued how if that is the case she would have met up with her first husband Robert Newton. Her roots were in the Mere area of Wiltshire and his around Buckland Newton working I believe as a labourer (ag).
