Title: Joseph Stevens - help with cleaning & colourisation
Post by: Avondale16 on Monday 26 February 18 19:36 GMT (UK)
This is an image of my 2 x great grandfather taken I believe following his appointment as a Baptist Minister in 1878.

Would love to see this either as a cleaner B&W image or even better with colour.

Thanks

I gave it a go for you in the original tone.

I like them both Carol - certainly better than the poor B&W image - you definitely see more character in his face. I'm assuming the image is too poor a quality to add any colour to Joseph, his clothing etc?

Thankyou for what you have done

Now you are spoiling me - this is so different & arty  :)

Do you think you could do anything with S F Stevens - shopfront from c1910 that I posted?

Keith....when I have a couple of days to spare I might have a go  ;D It's a great photo but there is a good couple of hours work at least on that one, but I'm sure there will be many others who will have a go too.
Just for information, Joseph's beard is known as a "Newgate Frill"
Off to give my eyes a rest  ;) ;D

I thought the shopfront would be a big challenge but if you get the time & it doesn't dry you mad  ;D it would be great to see what you could do with it.

I never knew that about the beard - history as well as great artwork  ;)

Go & have lie down now in darkened room

Thanks Andy - great eyes on this version & you've given him more hair!

I'm sure you noticed that he appears to have a wonky left arm - do you think that is caused by the poor quality of the original image resulting in his own arm & the arm of whatever he is sitting on morphing into one another?

It's and enlargement that has been over sketched as some of the detail has been lost, artistic licence springs to mind.

I've made a slight adjustment  :)

The pencil lines don't help when looking for the defining lines.... I think this is more like it.

Great thank you Pat - I thought I'd put you off touching my photos after the bakers shop front!

You have even sorted out his wonky arm  :)
