Hi fellow Rootchatters!
Can you help? I am trying to find out if the Terrence Lynch on this deceased search is my Great Great Grandfather. The age compares with my Terrence Lynch. If you can point me in the direction I need to look at or help me with any further information, I would appreciate it greatly!
Thanks so much. :)

Do you know his parent's names?
The VicBMD shows two deaths registered for a Terrence Lynch:
Father's name - Lynch James
Mother's maiden name -Mary (Mcmanamny)
Reg. year 1922
Reg. no 7722
Father's name - Lynch Terence
Mother's maiden name - Ellen (Mcnamara)
Reg. year 1922
Reg. no 7746
It may be that there is only one Terrence Lynch and there may have been some confusion over his parent's names, hence the two registrations? Someone more knowledgeable about Vic records may be able to help you further.
Do either of those sets of parents tally with Terrence's parents on his marriage certificate for example?

The one with parents Terence and Ellen is aged 81 and is buried at Ballarat with Margaret Lynch.

You seem to have his life pretty well mapped out Definos. ;D
Might be worth purchasing the Vic d/c with father James?

Both people listed in your link show as inmates. Catherine Riddle alias Ruddle, aged 50 in 1910, is listed in the register of inmates of the Ballarat Benevolent Asylum resource here:
http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/research/ballarat-benevolent-asylum
I can't see a Terence Lynch but maybe contact the society?

If your man died in the Benevolent Asylum there may be no further identifying information on his death certificate even if the information was known to the staff. Often if was a staff member or even at times, messengers or porters of institutions, who registered the deaths. You may be lucky and find it may at least have his place of birth.
There was another Terrence/Terennce Francis LYNCH living in Ballarat at that time.
The link provided to records of the Benevolent Society only covers -
Ballarat Benevolent Asylum Registers of Inmates 1860-1897-98
Register of Inmates - Lying-In Wards 1892-3 - 1904-05
It is possible he was only a patient/resident for a short period prior to his death. Would any information be made available for a person within a 100 years of their admission?
Good luck.

I may have missed it, but I cant see the following birth in your list:

I think posting information about the other Terence LYNCH is creating a red herring. He was born Co Clare.

Thank you all very much for your help.
It is a really difficult one but I appreciate your help. I am trying to find any lead I can.
My gut feeling tells me the Terence Francis Lynch in Ballarat is not one and the same as mine. (I believe the TFL in Ballarat had a son with the same name also).
My TFL could not read nor write and seemed to be deserting his wife regularly.
Frederick was a son of theirs (apologies for leaving him off my list Jamjar - I had to rush out after I posted)
It's as though they (Terence and Mary) just disappeared from Emerald Hill so I am trying to make sure I seek out as much information from the possibilities I have found.
I have quite a lot on Terence and Mary's children. One child Edwin, who was in the Army in Victoria (his wife was recorded as Next of Kin) moved to Western Australia, had the incorrect parents details on his Marriage Certificate (even his name was recorded as Ernest Edward & Ernest Edwin Lynch on the birth records) and on his Death Certificate, his parents were recorded as 'Unknown'. He was very young when Terence was deserting his wife.
I will look at all the information you have posted and see if I can find anything from that.
Again, thanks very much!
Karen :-)

Ballarat Health Services now hold the records from the Benevolent Asylum. They can be contacted for a 'Genealogy Search Application Form' which asks amongst other things for proof of ID, your relationship to the patient and reason for the request. There is a base fee of around $28, waived for Centrelink card holders, and no time limit on the records.

Yes that is a hospital admission though. It is not his death.

Ok! Thank Molliepops!
So still need to look further. Thanks so much! I am keeping all the information given but this is the most recent so far.
Thanks again!

So Ballarat could still be his place of death. < Maryborough is not too far away it seems.

He may have also been in hospital at Dunolly.
This is the link to read about applying for the Ballarat Benevolent Asylum records. There are forms at the bottom of the page.

I previously mentioned that the other Terence who died in 1922 was born Co Clare. A red herring. He was married to a Margaret and they all lived at Cardigan, Alfredton. Jamjar posted quite a bit about this man. His son was Terence Francis.
Cando
-
Hi Cando!
Thanks again!
I don't believe the person at Cardigan is my Terence - the family does not fit the information I have. Thank you too for the information about the hospital and Freedom of Information.
I will call them on Monday.
Thanks again so much.
Karen
-
You are correct Karen. Dismiss the Cardigan LYNCH's.
I wouldn't rush in a purchase his death certificate as in my experience deaths in public institutions often have little information. Let's hope you can access some patient information.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for your help Cando. I will take your advice on the death certificate. :-)

Good morning Cando!
I have found Electoral Roll for 1913 for Terence - Cnr Otway and York Streets, Ballarat East, Victoria, Australia. His Occupation was Army Pensioner which would fit in nicely with his past. Then from 1915 he is found at 41 King St, Ballarat East, up until 1921 although I am still searching! It looks to be my man! :D
His wife Mary seems to have disappeared off the radar and his parents I have done some quick searches to no avail so maybe back to ask for more assistance if I have no luck.
Thanks so much again Cando, and everyone on this thread! Much appreciated!
Karen ;D

Hi and thanks so much for your help with this.
I believe it is the first Terence Lynch as it does match up more with the infomraiton I have. Finding information on his wife Mary Barrett and his parents however has been much harder.
Again thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to help!
