Title: Problems with Ancestry images
Post by: Jomot on Saturday 03 March 18 23:59 GMT (UK)
Is anyone else having problems accessing some of the images on Ancestry?

I've had problems viewing some of the London Workhouse records and now I cant access the images for Soldier's Effects - all I'm seeing is a picture of some overlapping generic records (census, registration card etc).

One I've definitely looked at before is the Soldier's Effects for Edward Gibson 1314 DLI died 1916, but now I can't view it.  Could someone check it for me please so at least I'll know whether it's them or me.  Thanks

I can't access Edward Gibson either so its obviously them.

The issue with the London Workhouse records has been raised on their Facebook page but with little response unfortunately.  I don't know whether anyone's raised it with the LMA, last time there was a major issue I think people complained to the LMA which led them to lean on Ancestry to resolve sooner than later but haven't seen anything so far to see if this has happened this time yet.

Thank you.  I'll be giving them a call tomorrow - they charge enough for the subs so they should at least supply the records they promise!

Well I called them and they are aware of the issue but can't give any promise on when it will be fixed - in fact they are still allegedly gathering information about which records are broken.

They didn't offer it (no surprise!) but I managed to get a month's free subscription as compensation - their first offer was 25% off next years sub, but as I normally negotiate that each year anyway I politely declined!

Well considering you've paid for access to records they aren't providing, I'd say that 'luck' shouldn't come into it.  It could be weeks before they put it right.

If you paid a garage in advance for a full service but they ran out of parts, you'd expect to get some money refunded - why should Ancestry be any different?

I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem - as I've just renewed (how does one negotiate a better rate?) I'm especially cross!
