I have a Robert Mason b1851 in Norwich, Norfolk. Sometime between 1871 and 1881 he moved to Ford, Durham. Now more commonly known as South Hylton.
During this time he married an Elizabeth Winskill b1861 in Cox Green, Durham.
I know the family from Robert and Elizabeth onwards but I can't find Robert's parents or siblings. I have spoken to other family members who have not been able to find out about them either.
I have found a James mason b1802 and a Sarah A Mason b1813 as possible parents but they are questionable.
I would really appreciate it if someone else would be able to have a look too. Thanks

What record makes you suggest his parents are "James mason b1802 and a Sarah A Mason b1813" ?
is it a census? What other kids/family members appear in the record?

Do you have his marriage certificate - who does that give as his father?

I see on all censuses from 1881 onwards he is consistent about giving his place of birth as Norwich.

I don't have a birth certificate as I'm waiting for it at the moment.
The names came from a census. I will attach it now.

Birth or marriage certificate? Really we are better waiting until you get the marriage certificate otherwise we could be following the wrong Robert Mason, as there are a lot (see Pauline's post) born in Norfolk in 1851.

His wife was Elizabeth Winskill and their children are
William b1881
Margaret b1882
Robert b1887
Alfred b1890
And Catherine. B1892
All born in ford durham.

I'm afraid that giving us the information about Robert and his wife and family isn't a lot of help as you want to know his parents. The only way to be sure is to get his marriage certificate and find father's name and occupation, that will help you find him in 1871 and 1861 and will give first names of both his parents. From that you should be able to find their marriage.

Thanks anyway. I just thought that i might get lucky.

Thanks pauline i appreciate your reply.
That's found a couple for me to check out as extra siblings i didn't have.

Although it shows two Robert's and two Catherine's. Is it common for using names twice?
-
Catherine Elizabeth b1885 and
Robert b1883 weren't on the census would this possibly be because of deaths? And is that why the names were used again?

oh yes, I have 3 generations where every child of the family, including siblings of the direct line called their first girl Grace Agnes. Then the poor little mite died and they had another go, some had three goes.
