Title: Jones-Williams marriage in Buildwas 1820?
Post by: Drinks on Tuesday 13 March 18 15:33 GMT (UK)
Hello Rootschatters,
I have tracked my husband's family back to this marriage in Shropshire. But finding their antecedents is a problem, not surprising looking for Joneses and Williamses when that close to Wales!
I am hopeful that someone, with more resources than me, might be able to take a closer look at the marriage details and perhaps find further details - such as the names of the couples parents or where they came from. I would be most grateful for any pointers. The details I have are:

Marriage of John Jones to Frances Williams; Buildwas Shropshire; 29 May 1820
Approximate dates of birth from 1841/51 census. John Jones 1790-91; Frances Williams 1792-96
John Jones may have been born in Whitehaven Herefordshire (1851 census).
Many thanks for any clues you can offer.
Cheers

The only details given are what you already have. Plus he was a bachelor, she was a spinster and the witnesses were William Higgins and Sarah Millichap.

Hi if he is the widowed John Jones 61 with children Alfred 21 Frederick 17 and Fanny 15 in Aston, nr Birmingham in 1851 census, as I had never heard of a Whitehaven in Herefordshire I then looked at original, it looks to be Whitchurch which is in Shropshire or Herefordshire
Census ref HO107/2061/292/23

In 1861 aged 71 with son Frederick 27 in Aston he is shown as b Whit(e)church Herefordshire
Census ref RG09/2178/76/10

Thanks so much to Emeltom and keyboard86, this is brilliant information. I also checked for Whitehaven Herefordshire, and found none. However there is a tiny village/hamlet called Whitehaven just south of Oswestry which is of course Shropshire - more suited for a Buildwas marriage.
However, Emeltom's suggestion for John Jones' birth in Whitchurch looks like a great hint - especially when linked with K86's confirmation of 'Whitchurch' rather than Whitehaven.
Supersleuth's both of you
And many thanks

John's sister Marianne married in Whitchurch 4 September 1817 to a Samuel George Haywood from Warwickshire and they ended up living in Birmingham as well. Samuel goes under the name George and Marianne has become Mary Ann and they can be found in both the 1841 and 1851 Censuses
