Title: Wexford Workhouse
Post by: BLSstory on Thursday 22 March 18 10:47 GMT (UK)
I think I found my ancestor's death certificate.  He died in 1889 at the Wexford Workhouse.  What was that?  Was it a poorhouse?  a hospital? He was 80 years old so I doubt he was able to "work" at anything.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance.

Wow, that was depressing !!

Thank you for the information though.  Puts everything into context now.

The infirmary attached to the workhouse would have been the only hospital around, so I would check to see what any extant admission record says before assuming the relative was an inmate rather than a patient.

Thank you.  Where would I find Workhouse information online?

Thank you for your help.

Hello again,

Is this where you want me to be?  I am seeking advice on how to interpret the Revision Book entry where it crosses out my ancestor John's name and writes VACANT.  Does that mean his wife is deceased?

Thank you in advance.

:-)
