James William Williams born 1885 Portsea Hampshire. Married to Minnie Elizabeth Hayson 1921. Now it gets confusing. She was buried in the Isle of Wight 1948 but with a James Henry Richard Williams!!!
What is also confusing, I think James Henry was married to a Minnie Elizabeth Shepherd!! Can anyone help?
-
James Henry Richard Williams did indeed marry a Minnie Elizabeth Shepherd in 1919. I rather think that the Minnie Elizabeth who died in 1948 and is buried with James Henry is his wife and not the Minnie Elizabeth you are looking for. Minnie was 56 when she died in 1948 which gives a birth year of 1892 and there was a Minnie Elizabeth Shepherd born 1892 in Battle.
The only birth I can find for a Minnie Hayson is in Portsea in 1881. There is a death for a Minnie Williams Jun 1961 Isle of Wight 6b 1047 aged 80 which gives a birth year of 1881.

Many thanks for your help. Looks like Minnie was 4 years older than James.

Hi Emeltom. Further to your reply, I cannot seem to find the birth details for Minnie Hayson, Also, nowhere can I find any information on the 1891 1901 or 1911 census'.
-
The information for her birth came from the Parish Register for Portsea. The entry reads Minnie Elizabeth hayson born 24 August 1881, bapt. 26 July 1882. Parents Charles and Mary Ann. Father's occupation Stone Mason. Abode 24 Finsbury Street
I suspect that she is the entry on FreeBMD
Elizabeth Minnie Haysom Sep 1881 Portsea 2b 448 mmn Vine
Charles Haysom married Mary Ann Vine Mar 1879 Portsea 2b 634
The only Census I can find her on is 1891 under the name Haysom
If you don't have her marriage cert it might be worthwhile getting it to confirm her father's name. Ref June 1921 Portsmouth 2b 1006

Many thanks for your help. I think we may solve it now. Kind Regards

Hi,
Not very helpful I'm afraid, but I think that the Elizabeth Minnie HAYSOM born in Portsea in Sep Q 1881 might have died before the 1901 census,
Death
Elizabeth Minnie HAYSOM Mar Q 1900 Portsea Island 2b 434
Age: 18
It would explain why she can't be found in 1901 and 1911.
I wonder if this could be Minnie?
Birth
Minnie Elizabeth HAYSOM Mar Q 1899 Portsea Island 2b 466
mmn: BEEBY
Baptism

Parents: Samuel William and Minnie Maria HAYSOM
Abode: 25 Prince George St, Portsea
Blacksmith R.N.
Parents marriage
Samuel William HAYSOM Jun Q 1898 Portsea Island 2b 985
Minnie Maria BEEBY
1901 RG13/99 f.108 p.16 Portsea

HAYSOM (HAYSON at Ancestry)
Samuel William Head 29 Armourer R.Navy
Marie Wife 26
Minnie Elizabeth Daur 2
Minnie Elizabeth Daur 9 days
All born Hants Portsea
Odd that it has Elizabeth twice, there is an Alice Victoria born Jan Q 1901 that would seem to be the 9 day old daughter looking at the 1911 census.
In 1911 Marie is now Minnie, still married (but Samuel isn't there) at 43 Gladstone Street, Portsmouth. (HAYSAM at FindMyPast).
There is this death,
Death
Minnie Elizabeth WILLIAMS Sep 1980 Portsmouth 20 0618
DOB: 28 Jan 1899
which matches a Minnie E Williams found in 1939, married but husband not there so don't know if it is James :(

Daisy

That certainly sounds more plausible than the version I came up with. Buying her marriage cert should verify the name of her father.

I agree, buying the marriage cert. seems the only way to be sure it is the Minnie :)
-
Hi Emeltom and Daisy. Many thanks for the discussion, I will take your advice and get a copy of James and Minnies marriage certificate. Incidentally, James William was my great uncle, never met him but it,s all part of my family history. Mostly I've got back to pre 1800. Kind Regards.
-
Hi Emeltom. Re Minnie Hayson. Looked on the 1891 census, put in Charles Haysom, up he comes with Minnie Haysom at 9 years old. Also, when I went on the 1881 census he come up as Charles Haysone. So that's 3 ways of spelling his name!!!Regards

Please let us know how you get on, it's always nice to find the end to a puzzle :)

Hi Daisy Petal. As soon as I find out I'll let you know.
-
I have taken your advice and ordered the marriage certificate. Should get it mid to late April
-
Hello again. Just received the copy of marriage certificate June 1921 2b 1006. It 's for a James Walter Williams age25 married to Minnie Elizabeth Hayson age 22. Not the right name for James or the ages. Also it names his father as James Walter Williams and her father as Samuel William Hayson. I shall have to look further.
-
Oh no, that's a shame.
From the tile of your post I think we are looking for James William WILLIAMS not Minnie Elizabeth HAYSOM.
Is he the James William WILLIAMS living with his parents James and Jane Margaret in 1911? If so, do you find him anywhere after this?
Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisypetal. Yes my great uncle. I haven't any later information on him after 1911 census. Maybe he wasn't married. Before I got the certificate Minnie seemed a good bet!!
-
Hi all Thanks for your help on this matter. Got a bit more info about James. Birthdate 26 March 1885, worked in Portsmouth dockyard 1899 to 1913. I'm pretty sure he died 1929 but was named as William Williams. I am going to close the topic.
