Hello dear friends
On the off chance someone can help.....
My 3 x Great Grandfather was John Gothard Willans born 9th July 1802 in Hunslet. Died 1866 Hunslet.
His father was John Willans born 1764/ 1765.
He married Sarah Gothard in St Peters Leeds 17 November 1799.
My problem is who is this John Willans?
I have two most likelys at the moment.....
John Willans whose father is William Willans born 1735 ish
Or
John Willans whose father is Valentine Willans born 1737 ish
I must admit Valentine Willans 1735 seems most likely as I believe John (1765) had a son called Valentine in 1804.
This would seem strong evidence of course if correct but I have also read that Valentine 1737 had another son John in 1774 which would not make sense !!
So its a long shot I know...... but just in case there are thousands of Willans enthusiasts out there.
Many thanks in advance
Peter Schofield

Hi libby
Thank you very much for your answer and contributions.
You concentrated my mind.
I believe i was incorrect. Or confused.
I Think it must be the one born in 1774.....29 March actually at Goslem.
And the younger John born in 1764 was the one buried in 1770.
There is a page called Willans Homynyms which confused me a little as it said the one born 1764 survived. Which doesnt make sense as it also mentioned the younger brother.
Now i just need to find out how many times he was married :-)
Regards and thanks again Peter Schofield.
