Yes, the marriage Rosie posted would seem to be the marriage of your Joseph’s parents - Joseph and Henrietta (from the birth registration).

This site has indexes http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and shows that the marriage was either at the Registry Office or Registrar attended in church - were they Catholic?

There are quite a few Deromes and I think that Joseph snr can be found in censuses but you would need to get certificates to be sure.

The mmn could be Smith for margery and john. Cant see lillian.

Do you happen to know the married surname of the girls?

Hello again,

Go to Lancashire BMD via the link. Click on marriages and search there is a drop down for date range and then enter the name.

It looks as though the Derome/DeRome family came from Westmorland to Manchester.

In Manchester there seem to be some in Hulme/South Manchester but Joseph b 1917 and family are located in North Manchester.

Mmn is just a convenient abbreviation of mother’s maiden name.
Title: Re: DeRome of Manchester
Post by: PaulineJ on Wednesday 18 April 18 22:39 BST (UK)
Mmn is mothers maiden name.
I can tell you that margery was indexed with surname Gastham, not Eastham in the 1939 index.

Is it really Gastham, I wonder? Perhaps a later document has it wrong.

Parents look likely to be Richard Eastham and Esther Helen Smith, marr Sep qtr 1906 Salford.

Hi have passed info but I was just looking and Margery Eastham b. 1922 and yet  Lillian her sister  you have said was born 1907 !!  Big difference.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong on Freebmd but can't seem to find anyone births or marriages 😳 will try again tomorrow.

Another "Q"  was the marriage mentioned in one of the posts  and asking if they were Catholic , does it show them in a church wedding ? ( can't remember whose marriage it was) apparently the DeRomes' were strict Catholics.   Thanks again everyone.

Re the Catholic question.
Lancashire BMD show marriages as Church/Registrar Office. If it is C o E it shows the church otherwise Registrar attended or Reg. office.  Often this one is Catholic.

There are several Eastham births, in various places, with mother as Smith and to be sure you would have  to purchase the certificates. They may be unrelated.

Rosie - any relation to who you are researching - it is a Catholic Baptism

Baptism: 31 Mar 1889 Brownedge St Mary, Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, England
Josephus Derome - filius Thomae Derome & Annae (formerly Cooper)
     Born: 25 Mar 1889
     Godparents: Rogerus Waring; Eliz. Derome
Notes: Ipse Josephus Derome die 11 Augusti 1915 matrimonium contraxit cum Cecilia
Emilia Maria Canham in Ecclesia Sti. Joannis Langelistae [sic] apud Islington London
Baptised by: Aug. Pozzi Miss. Apost.
     Register: Baptisms 1884 - 1904, Page 98, Entry 489

does this say that this Joseph married Cecilia Emilia Maria Canham 11th August 1915 as well as the Baptism ?
new one on me - never seen that before

Hi garstonite,
Yes it is a transcription of a baptism and the marriage has been noted on the register. You can see this quite often.
In fact my dad’s baptism in Ireland is annotated with my mum’s name and our local church and I found it quite lovely to read when I came across it.

The Deromes seem to be Westmorland and North Lancashire and maybe many are related- repeated names etc. I think the Joseph Beechbaby is researching is North Manchester with Westmorland and Irish roots if I have the right family.
