Hello people of County Offaly Ireland.
I research autograph names from a Shakespeare's Birthday Book which has been in my pocession for many years now. Once owned by Surgeon/Dr Thomas Leslie Crooke 1861-1943.
Recently I stumbled on a site BOARDS IE but the messages were from 2010.
I couldn't gain access to the site as someone named (Sim) Simarillion was looking for these family names also in the Birthday Book among the 800-900 autogtraphs.
Adam Mitchell Crown Solicitor
J (James) Fitzroy Mitchell Engineer (Died young at Buenos Airies).
They once lived in Birr in place named "Walcott" which was then taken over by the Hoctor family.
Susan L Mitchell went to stay them in Birr at a stage in her life.
Most people signed on their birthday but left no year.
These were relatives to a great Irish woman Susan L (Langstaff ) Mitchell Poet/Writer 1866 whose autograph is also in the book.
Others appear :
Barbara Mitchell : Sept 25 and a Catherine Mitchell: Sept 26. Mary Mitchell: Feb 3 (no years).
A G Mitchell Feb 22 1858
I am struggling to find these people as very limited to sites I can access.
Thank you from Shane in NZ.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Langstaff_Mitchell
Her father Michael Thomas Mitchell. Died Carrick on Shannon 1873.
Mother Kate Cullen died 1913, Dublin
A published tree shows him as son of Adam Mitchell (1816-1892) and Barbara Foster.
Might be best to look at what is given and assess what you would like after that :)
Amended - see later posts
Thomas Mitchell is son of Adam.
Michael Thomas seems to be son of George Mitchell and Susan Langstaff.

I only posted "Thomas Leslie Crooke's mother was Emily Hackett, daughter of Thomas Hackett and Jane Bernard Shaw" as that is connection to the Shaws.
Probably a relative of George Bernard Shaw

Parkes of Parke's Castle, the Nesbitts, the Wynnes, the Wrays, the Waldrons etc etc etc... Leitrim, of Fingall, Co. Dublin and of Bordeaux, France!!
Pure speculation of course!!

Yes I think this is the right A G.as among my autographs I found a Thomasina Manifold (nee Hobbs) married George Augustus Frederick Crousdaile Manifold from also Kings County and it went to a site Geni the page is run by David Allen Hackett (related to Emily Hackett). Its like much of the autographs are related in some way.

Hello again,
Two things:
Birr was formerly known as Parsonstown so the references will be for the same place.
I think somewhere I have mixed up the generations ::)
I have these names from a published tree so they would have to be verified.
George Mitchell m Susan Langstaff
Children:
Adam c 1816
Michael Thomas 1823- 1873 m Kate Cullen
Thomas no sources
Jane died 1897
Sarah no sources
Margaret died 1896
James Daniel died 1897
As you can see - not much information and not validated.
There is a mention of the aunts in Susan L Mitchell’ s notes after the death of her father, perhaps they are the daughters noted above.
Newspaper announcement of marriage
May 1843
Susan, second daughter of the late George Mitchell, solicitor of Parsonstown to Captain Wegg.
( no mention of Susan in the published tree).
There is mention of Thomas Mitchell, Secretary to the Grand jury, King’s County in 1840s so perhaps that is a brother to George rather than a son :-\
It is quite possible that the same first names were used within the branches of the family and the above notes may have no relevance to your quest re the autographs other than Susan Langstaff Mitchell’s father was an Offaly man and only resided in Leitrim.
-

Fitzroy Dunlap Mitchell b 1891 - mother Fanny Mitchell (her maiden name).
This Thomas Mitchell was the son of Adam

Her father Michael Thomas Mitchell. Died Carrick on Shannon 1873.
Mother Kate Cullen died 1913, Dublin
A published tree shows him as son of Adam Mitchell (1816-1892) and Barbara Foster.
Might be best to look at what is given and assess what you would like after that :)
This information is wrong - it is Thomas Mitchell (not Michael Thomas) who is the son of Adam.
I am sorry it has become confused so you would be best to jot down info given and cross match with your autographs.

Hi Shane,
Not sure why you have reposted the enquiry but in the above posts I think now we have:
Adam Mitchell -son of George and brother of Michael Thomas
J Fitzroy Mitchell - not found - I think - or rather not looked for :)
Barbara - wife of Adam
Margaret - connected to Susan, daughter of George so ....
Mary - not looked for
A G Mitchell - son of Adam
I know I keep saying write down and check but it is necessary. Several of these people have been linked to civil records, wills etc which you can check and maybe look for others in the family. Those sites are free.

Where does this information come from?
There is a Freemasons entry for 1886 for this man so if he died young, which generation would he be?
-
1884
Fitzroy Mitchell, third son of Mr Adam Mitchell, Sessional Crown Solicitor and brother of the popular Secretary of the Kings County Grand Jury, has been appointed Supt Engineer in Rangoon, Burma.

https://www.dia.ie/architects/view/3514/MITCHELL-JAMESFITZROY
James Fitzroy Mitchell, who was born circa 1851, was a son of Adam Mitchell, sessional Crown solicitor for Co. Offaly. On 24 March 1890, when he was thirty-nine, his 'promising career as an engineer was sadly terminated at Buenos Ayres, after nine days' illness'.

Shane,
We have given you some free sites to search yourself - Irish Genealogyn wills and census for example.
Here is a will for Mary Mitchell http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014913/005014913_00425.pdf
She is a spinster and admin has been granted to Adam Mitchell M D so presumably he is the doctor.
I can’t find her death though in Irish Genealogy.
To complicate matters there are two Adam Mitchells who are doctors - Adam and Adam G in 1901 :-\
You have an autograph of A G Mitchell so presumably yours.

You will have to look at this Shane and try to sort out with your notes
Adam Mitchell married to Harriet

Marriage of Adam Mitchell - Father Adam, a Solicitor, to Harriet Scott Mitchell
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1882/10968/8009084.pdf
Adam G Mitchell married to Bessie -already noted earlier but just noticed he is born Limerick :-\
Marriage to Bessie Manifold - Adam Garrett with father Adam, Gentleman.
Now, Mary Mitchell, death not found, died 1904 according to the will and Adam Garrett Mitchell died 1901 so she must be connected to the Adam who is married to Harriett - or Harriett as she was also a Mitchell- phew!
However, as you have Adam G’s autograph and Manifold notes, Adam G is connected somehow.
Hmmmm..... not sure it’s the same tune, Hallmark ;)

Hmmm!
It does have a certain air! But needs mulling over.

I am hoping Shane will pull it together :)

Hi, my husband’s great grandfather is Adam Mitchell,b.1855, doctor/surgeon who lived in Borris
- in - Ossery. He married Harriett Scott Mitchell b.1854. I wondered if anyone has published a family tree of either of these two, as I am finding all these Mitchells very confusing, despite getting a lot of help from this thread.
I know a little of what happened to some of Adam and Harriett’s children, if anyone is interested.
Thanks 🙂

Thanks Hallmark, I’m beginning to make progress. I now realise that The brothers Adam (MD) and Thomas Mitchell (solicitor) both married their cousins, the sisters Harriett Scott Mitchell and Fanny Mitchell respectively. It clarifies a lot! If I’m not right, do say! 🙂

Many thanks dathai, I am most grateful for any information you can throw my way. I don’t know how people unearth these documents! Having dipped into it, it looks like fascinating reading in itself. I am always amazed how kind people can be, so thankyou again.
I have just discovered that James Daniel Mitchell was married in Coleraine in 1850. We lived there for many years without realising there was any family connection!

Thank you very much Dathai, that’s a bumper crop, and filled in many gaps for me! I spent a lot of time yesterday digesting the information. I have sent for James Daniel Mitchell’s marriage cert to get more details of his wife, Margaret Dunlop, as they are my husbands direct ancestors (along with Adam and Barbara Mitchell). I’ll post any info I get. I also found that Harriett Scott Mitchell b. Feb 1890 in Queens Co. married late in life (in 1945 to Alexander Ratti) and died in Croyden in 1963. It took ages to find the marriage as he had been transcribed as Batt on the 1939 census and the date was nearly illegible.
Many thanks once again for all your invaluable help. 🙂

Yes, that’s the one! I found out she ended her days in Holmsdale road, just opposite the Crystal Palace football ground! (Handy for some...) I was glad to see she didn’t end her days destitute as her life unravelled somewhat after such a promising beginning.
Thankyou Kiltaglassan for for taking the time to help. 🙂

I have marriage information about James Daniel Mitchell, described as an accountant, residing in Ballymena, (father George Mitchell, solicitor) who married Margaret Dunlop, residing in Coleraine, (her father is Archibald Dunlop, merchant). Date August 15 1850, Ballyrashane Church, Coleraine. I had hoped for more detailed information of their addresses but only the towns are given. James went on to become a bank manager in Dublin.
