Thomas Blyth b Newburgh, Fife, 1787, married Margaret Smith in Dunbog 1808. Thomas's father given as John, no mother named. The only John I can find at the time was christened John James Knox Spencer Blyth, during his father's absence (? at war or in the military). Has anyone come across this Thomas? His son David is my ancestor and both parents are shown on the death certificate.

So this is Thomas?:
THOMAS Blyth christened 17 June 1787 Newburgh, Fife, Parents JOHN Blyth and Agnes MILLAR
Birth 15 June 1787
Siblings seem to have Mother as Ann Millar;
ROBERT 1782
WILLIAM 1789
I did notice that Thomas was of Abernethy Parish at time of 1808 Marriage.
Have you found John/Agnes Marriage to establish where in Scotland they may be from?

I've got John and Ann's marriage notice in Newburgh, Fife, 13 Nov 1775. I have 5 children for them. My main problem is identifying the parents of that John. There are two born in Newburgh within a year of each other - one's mother is Margaret Anderson, the other's mother is Janet Spence/r. I've followed the Spence line but can't prove that this is correct. I haven't found any record (apart from the birth record) giving the full name of John James Knox Spencer Blyth. Only this morning I've found a record on Ancestry with John (son of Janet Spence) married to someone called Birrell. If I follow that through, it might prove that my Spence link is wrong.

Is the naming pattern of Thomas/Margarets children no help?
Sorry I have no other suggestions so hopefully someone else will :)

Thanks Trish. His parents are definitely John and Ann/Agnes, it's the next generation that's giving me trouble - just identifying the right John. Maybe someone will read my post and have a suggestion.
