Hello,
My ancestor, Sophia Hinson, was born around 1820 in Cambridge. For her 1841 marriage to Henry Pepper in Northampton, she gives her father as John Hinson, tailor. I have always assumed that John Hinson, born 1781, Elsworth, a tailor living in Cambridge in 1851 was her father. But her mother - I have no clue, as there is no baptism. I see two marriages for a John Hinson, one in 1808 in Elsworth and one in 1819 in Cambridge. Can anyone see when/if the 1808 wife died? If he remarried in 1819 and the two are the same person, presumably Sophia's mother is the lady from the second marriage.
I'd appreciate any help!

Cambridgeshire Baptisms Index 1801-1837
https://www.cfhs.org.uk/searchsd.cfm
has Sophia Hinson, bap 1817 Cambridge St Giles
parents John + Catherine
Is that a possibility?

No names given for either wife
-
Well if it's the 1819 marriage in St Giles, wife was Mary Brister.
No marital status given on the BT

I don't think it's the same John who was married to Catherine! Need to find a baptism to them on there for John's occupation.

The search for Sophia's baptism is finally over! Is the 1808 marriage for John Hinson in Elsworth to a Catherine?
-
And there's no exact date in 1817?
-
Hi
Well it's not quite over, we only have the year. No, not the date.
And CFHS also have Henry Hinson baptized in St Giles in the same year, parents also John + Catherine. That one is indexed on Cambridgeshire Baptisms (on a pay website) but Sophia's is not. Why not?
The John Hinson 1808 marriage in Elsworth was to Sarah Arber or Susannah Arber on 31 July, according to FamilySearch.
Nothing is simple!

I've started a separate thread to find a date, appealing to whoever has a copy of the parish record CD.
And no it's definitely not easy ;D I didn't expect it to be considering what a dead end this lady has been. But it gives me hope for some of my other dead-end ancestors. I seem to recall viewing a marriage of a John Hinson to a Catherine Game but I can't remember when or where. I shall have to look again.

Hello,
I'm struggling to find anything on John's parents. He was born in 1781 in Elsworth, and his parents married in 1780 in Elsworth. They were William Hinson and Ann Pickin. I have a burial for William. Can anyone find me baptisms for either?
I'd appreciate any help!

He was born in 1781 in Elsworth
John's baptism, BT

For William, in Elsworth all I can see is way back in 1729, William Henson

Indexed from the parish register, seems to be omitted from the BT!

A William Hinson and wife Mary were having children baptized in Elsworth in the 1760's and 1770's. Nothing so far to suggest he might have been widowed and married a younger woman.
So your William is a bit of a puzzle. Had a son called Sykes in 1791. As did John and Catherine in Cambridge later!
-
Yes, it looks like your William was buried in Elsworth in 1806 and was a Taylor.
Could Ann have remarried?
John
-
Thanks for all that! Yes, Ann may have remarried. I've very little on her other than her marriage and the baptism you've provided.
-
Do you have a burial date for William Hinson in 1806?
-
23 May 1806 is given on FreeReg. But I don't think there's a BT for that year to look at.
John

Thank you!

Adam,
I am descended from Sophia Hinson's sister Elizabeth. I have a great deal of information on the Hinsons and their ancestors going back into the early 1600s. Let's chat.
