Thank you for looking. The library don't have Lair records - I have tried before for other ancestors but most of the records don't start till 1872.

That's a pity you might need to try Edinburgh for old church records

About ten years ago, I tried to find lair records for one of my ancestors and had to go to the specific area office. I found out the appropriate one by phoning the D & G Council. They were all really helpful.

It might be worth phoning them to find out where the old lair books for Caerlaverock are.

The other problem is, I don't have a date when James FORSYTH died - just the year 1860.

Yes, I have phoned D&G  Council  before and, yes, they are very helpful- but the ones I was looking for at the time, their records didn't start till 1872.  The other problem is, I don't have a date when James FORSYTH died - just the year 1860.

I will give the council a call.

Many thanks

Would appear that Isabella Forsyth (Paisley) died Well Street,Lochmaben, November 25th. 1870 aged 84 yrs. widow of James FORSYTH who appears to be buried in Caerlaverock in 1860.

Isabella's daughter who was married to my John MEIN, died in High Street, Lochmaben in 1867. Will be interesting to find out where they are buried and if John is mentioned.

Cant make out the informant's signature.

Have emailed the D&G Council and they acknowledged promptly. Some one will be in touch, soon.  "Lochmaben"  is covered by Annandale & Eskdale.  "Caerlaverock" by Nithsdale. Learn something new everyday.
I would rather email them and then I have information to refer back to rather than trust my memory ;)

I would say it was her son, as on her daughter's (Isabella MEIN's (Forsyth) death certificate for 1867 - Thomas FORSYTH (Brother) was the informant. Hope that makes sense.

A tad curious as to the daughter Isabella place of death - just has High Street, Loochmaben.

Many thanks for all that information.  From the burial records I got at the library it would appear Agnes FORSYTH was buried at Lochmaben.

Thomas's two sons died very young as did their father and were all in the grocery business.
I wonder if this was why  Isabella FORSYTH their mother and her daughter went to Lochmaben to live after living at Caerlaverock.

Not a problem  :).

Both Isabella MEIN (Forsyth) and her mother Isabella FORSYTH were on 1841/51/61 census for Caerlaverock.  James FORSYTH died August 1860 at Caerlaverock and 8 August  1860 John MEIN died. So, sometime between 1861 and 1867 both Isabellas moved to LOCHMABEN. Perhaps to be with their family.

Hi, Just noticed this thread. The village is called BANKEND. There has never been a Bankhead (and I was born and raised there)

This appears to have been a spelling mistake on my part, and should be Bankend. I do apologize.
