Hello,
I've hit some dead ends with the origins of these individuals:
Elizabeth Dakin - had an illegitimate daughter in Shepshed in 1753
John Underwood and Jane Waldrom, married in Rothley in 1797
I'd appreciate any help!

Hi
I have an ancestor called Elizabeth Deacon born in Leicestershire and found that the surname has many variations including Dakin. If you haven't already done so I suggest that you try a few variations.

That's a good idea. Thanks!
-
just checking - are you looking for the name of Elizabeths daughter Shepshed 1753? & what details needed for Rothley marriage?
I have access to Shepshed & Rothley records.

I have the details of Elizabeth's illegitimate daughter (my 5x great-grandmother) but I know nothing of Elizabeth prior to having her daughter. She later married a man named Lewin. I'm looking for any details of John Underwood prior to marrying Jane Waldrom (know little of her other than a c. 1769 birth year) but I don't think he was from Rothley :(

ok I will have a look tomorrow.

Thanks Bunnygirl! Unfortunately, my Jane died aged 98 in 1867, so would've been a bit too young for that christening.

Ok interesting morning in library.
Elizabeth Dakin - igi has no likely baps 1730 -1737 also checked Shepshed & loughborough prs & no joy.
So marriage 27 Dec 1756 Shepshed prs have full details.
It reads
Banns of marriage between John Lewin & Elizabeth Dakin both of this parish Dec 12/19/26th.
John Lewin & Elizabeth lewin were married 27th Dec 1756 Shepshed by me vicar ...
John Lewin his mark
Elizabeth Lewin her mark
Witnesses Edward Lewin John Haddon ( think John a parish official - seen his name before)
Now obviously both places where it says Elizabeth Lewin it should read Dakin! As they were illiterate must be
Vicars fault. Maybe they had been living together since Elizabeth's daughter born & so vicar thought of her as
Lewin! Not sure whether this means record is invalid??
Well it doesn't help sorry but interesting . . .

Thanks Diddy! That's certainly food for thought ;D

Elizabeth likely had another illegitimate child Luke bap in Shepshed in 1855.
Elizabeth herself was the child of John /Mary who bap their children in Thornton Leicester potentially lived at Bagworth
-
May I have the details of Elizabeth's birth? Are you sure it's the same person who lived in Shepshed?
-
surely cant be the same Elizabeth - one we were looking for must have been bap 1730 - 1737?? wouldn't be having children 1855!! or do you mean 1755?

1755. The christening was from 1755 for Luke Dakin.
-
I see two burials for an Elizabeth Lewin in Shepshed, one in 1757 and one in 1765. Can anyone see if any notes are attached e.g. wife of John?
-
I did check the Shepshed cemetery list / details this am. no lewins listed so no grave stone. can check burials next time in.
did see a bap for bagworth but not considered as not that near Shepshed
