Title: Edward RICHARDSON arrived in Wellington 1852
Post by: Eyesee on Sunday 29 July 18 00:35 BST (UK)
Edward RICHARDSON arrived in Wellington in January 1852. Do not know where he came from or what ship, or even if he stayed. Have looked through shipping lists and Paperspast.

He was known by and possibly related to Thomas RICHARDSON who arrived on the Arab in 1841. Thomas wrote a letter back to family in Brede in Sussex in April 1852 and in it he mentions having seen and met with Edward.

Anyone come across this Edward.

Thanks.

Earlier than you state though.

Hi Ian,

I assume that Edward RICHARDSON's date of arrival comes from Thomas's letter home?

I have just found this record of a passenger E. RICHARDSON who departed Wellington for Sydney on 17 November 1852 per the William Alfred, schooner. So perhaps he either moved on to NSW or even came to New Zealand from there earlier that year.

ADDENDUM: I might be correct with the latter assumption: A Edward RICHARDSON travelled from Sydney to Wellington in 1847 per the Bee, brig. Arrived November 11.

Thanks Spades. Yes he mentions about meeting Edward in a letter to his brother in Brede.

Think now he might be the Edward that arrived in Sydney in 1839. That Edward came to Wellington in 1847 and did return to NSW. He came from Brede in Sussex, which is where Thomas was originally from, and were related to each other somehow.

Edward arrived in Sydney on the Morayshire. They had left Gravesend on the Juliana, but that was wrecked at Cape Town, and they were transferred to the Morayshire to finish the voyage to NSW. Also on that same ship was Thomas Richardson's sister Martha and her husband Thomas Bateup.

Hi Ian,

I'm pleased you found him.

Just for curiosity, can you us when he was born and if he died in AUS?
