Title: Abraham Shute, c 1792
Post by: Mike Thw on Tuesday 07 August 18 13:09 BST (UK)
According to the 1851 census Abraham Shute was born in Chard c 1792.

Can anybody find a baptismal record for him? It's possible that his father may be George.

There are a number of records for Shute/Shutt on Freereg going back to the 1600s

I guess from the 1841 census George was related in some way.
There is a baptism for George Shute 28 Apr 1765 at Pitminster, St Mary & Andrew. Parents John & Betty, they also had Robert in 1775.

George & Sarah had a son John baptised there in 1800 but sadly no baptism for Abraham?

George had married Sarah Blackmore earlier in 1800 at St Mary the Virgin, Chard, his abode was noted as sojourner.

The only Abraham I could find was baptised  16 Feb 1800 at St Michael, Orchard Portman.

Parents John & Betty, noted as living in the parish.

Give the number of refeences to the name perhaps not all of the records have survived?

Colin - since I posted this thread, I have discovered, through another thread, that Abraham was in fact Abraham Blackmore (maybe born illegitimately) c 1794.

His mother married George Shute in 1800 and he adopted the surname.

Anyway, thanks for replying.
