Hi,
There is a George White Abernethy born st Andrews, Dundee in 1885.
Is this the right person?

There is an article in the Dundee Evening Telegraph of 14th February 1949 which tells of the Reverend George W. Abernethy spending a holiday in his native Dundee.
On his return he gave lectures to his congregation about the 'conditions on this side'.
There is also a reference to gift being sent, as a result of his lectures, to two elderly ladies in Dundee from the Sunday School of the First Presbyterian Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Thank you one and all for all your hard work and help. GWA travelled to Canada in 1909 with a Welshman Evan Richards as missionaries and they remained lifelong friends. It looks like the Scotsman remained a family man with exemplary service to his church
Thank you all.
Thank you Sandra In particular for your contribution.
