His marriage certificate states his father is Ole Myhre occupation Hatter if that helps.

His death is registered as Albert August Myher age 32, June Quarter 1864, East London registration district Vol 01c page 8.

Hi
I found your posts on a Norwegian forum and saw that he came from Drammen. Perhaps he became a seaman as Drammen was a port and perhaps jumped ship. I have seen this happen before.

When he married he was a watchmaker, his wife Emily Brunette (St Mary Islington 23 July 1859) her father was a jeweler.

Thanks - we have all that info with copies of marriage and death details. The period we are looking at is his last known date in Stavanger Norway August 1851 to his marriage in London 1859. Info on vessel name, date departure and arrival, probably Hull

You are exactly right we have that info and have visited the church in London where they were married. Emily came to New Zealand with her two children in 1874, the son was my grandfather.

We are trying to find how and when Helge left Stavanger and travelled to England sometime after 1851.

Thanks Ian. Possible but unlikely. We have quite good details of his eventual career in London as a jeweller/watchmaker.

Yes, he changed his christian name from Hans to Albert at some stage. His son Hans August came to New Zealand with his mother in 1874 and he changed his christian name to Charles (my grandfather).

Great spotting - I don't think so  although many of the names are the same. Haven't
seen this before - Sara Marie Stoltenberg, as a widow did move with her 6 children to Stavanger from Drammen to be with her eldest son probably late 1841. Is this a census? What year? I guess it is possible as they could well have moved into accommodation with other family and people (as they did) We have not been able to establish a location or address where they lived in Stavanger. Her eldest son was Hans Bernt Myhre, elder brother of Helge August, the one who left Stavanger for England. Very interesting.

Have you got a link to this date?

Ian

Added..... found the document you have. It also looks as though you have the passenger list too although the name says Mr. Myhre.

I believe this is Helge Hanssen Myhre, son of Hans Christensen Myhre and Berthe Eriksdatter Helgesen nee Moen.

Hi Ian, have received a snapshot of a 'Myhre' landing in Hull 1857 but not the whole page and not able to access the file. I think Helge may have travelled earlier than this.
