Hi,

Hi,
It looks like rs to me = Mrs.
Regards Crowsfeet

It used to be a common way to write Mrs.

I agree with the others, it's 'Mrs'. However I've not come across witnesses on a banns record before. Is this a combined entry showing the banns dates and marriage record together?

I wonder if it's a combined banns and marriage entry. I've seen quite a few in the Welsh records that I've looked at.
Another for Mrs (can't do it your way Gadget) ;D

Annie - to do superscript of subscript, highlight the letters you want to adjust and then click on the sup or sub icons in the formatting bar shown above the message box.

Here's a bit about combined entries:
Most marriages at this time were by Banns.
Banns had to be read on three consecutive Sundays in the parishes of both the bride and the groom so that any objections to the marriage could be made, i.e that either of the couple was a minor, siblings or already married. It was assumed that people who lived close to them would know them best!
These Banns were then entered into a register, sometimes separate, sometimes a combined Banns and marriage register.
The marriage would then take place in one of these parishes.

It's an abbreviation, but what of ? Is it Mus - Marcus?
-
I still think it's 'Mrs'.
Here's an example of a combined banns/marriage entry from 1788. (There's another one further down the page where only the banns part has been completed. Changed their minds maybe.)

So do I Carol. I've looked up listings of First name abbreviations and there really is nothing like that. It's how we used to write Mrs in the olden days of my youth ;D
