Hi, could someone do a look up for me on the 1851 and the 1841 (if possible), please? :-\
I'm looking for:-
George King b.1828 in Bucklebury and
Edward Tidbury b. 1831 in Bucklebury

I can't find George KING - in fact there do not appear to be any KINGs either born or living in Bucklebury.

I have to admit I made a bit of a faux-pas with George King! He was actually born in 1828 in Long Crowmarsh, Oxon. :-\

Do you know if Long Crowmarsh OXF is the same as Crowmarsh Gifford? because I looked there for your George King in 1851 and there are no Kings, I also checked the baptisms and there were no King baptisms at this period - have I got the wrong place?

I got Long Crowmarsh, Oxon off of the 1871 census which shows this as the birthplace for George King. I'm afraid I have no idea whether it is the same place as Crowmarsh Gifford ???

Your George King has been bugging me - so I had another look today - finally found him in 1851 in Calcot
HO107/1691 Fo 427 - Bath Road Calcot, Worlds End Inn
George Lee King aged 23 Innkeeper born Crowmarsh Gifford
Elizabeth King aged 28 born Baisingstoke Hants
+ 1 serv & 2 lodgers
I found their marriage - St Giles Reading 28th June 1850
George Lee King son of William King to Elizabeth Mary Ford daughter of David Ford
From the IGI
George Lee King born 13th May 1827 baptised 19th September 1827 Market Place independent Chapel Wallingford son of William & Sarah King
they also had
Ann 1819
Sarah 1821
Mary Elizabeth 1823
Charlotte 1831
the batch number for family search is C035821 if you want to look yourself there are a few other probable family members mentioned - including the baptism of William King son of William & Mary King in 1793
I still don't know where they were in 1841 though and as it is not yet indexed I don't know where to start looking - still this is a bit more info for you - hope it helps

That's almost certainly him as on one of the censuses he used a middle initial and I had it down as a possible 'L' (it was difficult to read), so George Lee would fit that scenario!
He was my gt gt grandfather and the extra information you provided now gives me the name of my gt gt gt grandparents - it also explains the origin of my middle name (Elizabeth)!
Another thing which makes me think it's definitely him is the Innkeeper part, insofar as that seemed to be a family trait on that side and each generation ended up running pubs!! My Dad, Auntie and Uncle all being born in one. Although that's where the trait stopped unfortunately!
Once again Debbie thank you so much for taking the trouble to pursue this for me. Someone give the girl a gold star!

from the IGI Edward son of Robert & HAnnah Tidbury baptised at Thatcham Church LAne Independent 24th Jan 1831
So it seems that your Tidburys were also non-conformists at this time which would make sense if they later linked by marriage to the Kings - as people often married others from the same church - unfortunatly it does make finding records for them harder - I can't find Roberts baptism (about 1801) at all
However this would be his marriage
17th Feb 1830 Bucklebury Robert Tidbury to Hannah Fisher
And finally here they are in 1851 - Bucklebury Hamlet called The Hale

Yes, it does indeed help. Thank you once again for taking the time and trouble to look them up for me - that's a few more pieces of the puzzle solved!!
I'm off on hols tomorrow for a week so I haven't had much time to digest all the info as yet, but I'll certainly get cracking on updating my Family Tree when I get back!
