Title: Beaster nets
Post by: meles on Thursday 29 September 05 17:07 BST (UK)
Two of my (female) ancestors are described as "beaster nets" in Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk in the 1871 census. The writing is quite clear, but the meaning is not. Any ideas what they did? I presume it's something to do with the fishing industry in those times.

thanks

Hi

Could it read BEATSTER.

Beatster.........Make or mended drift nets used in fishing.

It could indeed, and the definition makes perfect sense.

Thanks
