Hello,
I am a direct descendant of William and Lucy! and his son Robert Spurling. I am only young and have just started research (I am in south Australia) so any help with records in England would be a great help as i am compiling a family history book as we speak.
From my knowledge;
William Spurling (born 1808, Banham) married Lucy before 1841, when they were present at the work house in Guiltcross (id like to know more on this if anybody knows information on this). They had about 7 kids, the two oldest girls i believe stayed in England. William left England on a boat called Shackamaxon (look it up, interesting story behind it), with his wife and Robert, Joshua, William, Samuel and James. The family arrived in Port Adelaide in 1853. James died at the age of 4 a year or two after they arrived. William died in Beaufort, SA.
I mainly have my direct family written down from me to James Spurling (James Spurling-William Spurling-Robert Spurling-William John Spurling-John Robert Spurling-Edward George Spurling-My grandfather and Father.) along with their siblings.

Hi Deb,
I would like to get in contact with you about this topic, as we could help each other a fair bit.
I am a direct descendant of William and Lucy myself. If i am looking at my paper work correctly, The Joshua i have written down is a brother to Robert Spurling (my 4x Great grandfather).
I am compiling and writing a family history book at the moment, and i wish to extend my book once year 12 is complete.
I hope i hear back from you,
C Spurling

No doubt all questions in this have now been answered, but just registering my interest in the SPURLINGs, as James (the father of James & William) married Frances JESSUP, and that family within Norfolk and other parts of Australia and New Zealand is pretty significant. (My own ancestress is a JESSUP)
I'm not totally related, but have a fairly good sized family tree on some of them, and further contacts and source information from other people going back 15-20 years.
