Hi Ann,

Thanks for your reply - seems like you are related to the same line of Thatchers as Peter Thatcher listed in a previous post?

If you contact him - he should be able to help provide further information on the line as he mentioned in his post?

regards,

John

Thanks KN!

Yes - I noticed that there seems to be more Wills available now on the NA website.  Unfortunately I cant seem to find any related to the end of line Fortescues I am hunting for, however I did find some useful ones for another family line I am working on!  (Quick and easy way to spend money!)

Thanks again for the tip!

cheers,

John

Thanks Ian,

Appreciate that option - and will look at ordering the film . . .

John

Thanks Ian and Kim!

Really appreciate the info you sent from the parish records.

I was really hoping to find if someone has access to the memorial inscriptions from the parish church (Saint Mary the Virgin) - as they may have some more information?

I believe they have been transcribed?

regards,

John

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Fortescues of Buckland, Berkshire

Hi All,

Decided to create this as a new topic - as updating up the old Fortescue thread didnt seem to attract any attention as yet?

Anyway - I decided to pull out the Fortescue file again and have another look and see if any new info has popped up re the family in Baulking . . .

Cant seem to find much new on the Internet - however, I had another in depth look at the family from Buckland, and it seems that the original Francis Fortescue from the Baulking line and the original John Fortescue from the Buckland line probably came from the same parents?

I spent some time piecing together the Buckland line (see attached - sorry in advance for the messy scribble) - and the original John Fortescue would have been born in the same period as Francis Fortescue - who we assume was buried in Longworth in 1755.

Longworth is quite close to Buckland - so it makes sense that the original family ties in together somewhere around that area?

Just wondering if someone out there has access to the memorial inscriptions from the local parish church in Buckland - just to see if any of them shed any more light on the family and where they may have come from?

Also - wondering if anyone has any access to any of the older wills of the Buckland Fortescues.  I already have one will - of William Fortescue (snr) who died 1759.

Thanks in advance!

regards,

John

Hi Cello,

No worries - I will search through my notes and find Denis' family tree - and send them to the museum.

Thanks for your help - and kind offer for future assistance!

I have been touch with Peter Thatcher via email - we have been trying to tie the lines together.  It gets a bit patchy from my end of line ancestor (Thomas Thatcher) - but he has some good ideas - and we are currently trying to decifer some old Thatcher Wills.

regards,

John

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes - I was aware of the connection - in fact that is how we first got so much information on the Thatcher line in Uffington - as we met up with John Little (a local historian) while visiting the town - who had been engaged by Denis Thatcher to help trace the family tree.  It was fantastic to see the various memorials to the Thaters on the wall of St Marys - I am sure Denis helped to preserve a lot of those.

I assume from your name that you may be related to the same family tree as well?

regards,

John

Thanks Orpheus and Ribbo!

Appreciate you taking the time to assist with this.

That "origins.net" site looks very useful - I will have to look at subscribing to assist with this line and other lines I am researching.
Does this web site just provide access to the indexes - or to the actualy copies of the wills as well?

Orpheus - thanks for sending through the list of wills for Uffington Thatchers from the BRO index.  I guess the ones for various Thomas's (1700's)and Richard (1736) would be the most useful?  Do you have any further info on any of those?  Otherwise - how does one go about ordering a copy of the wills from the BRO?

kind regards,

John
