Hi

I have a George Hindhaugh b 1868 in Tanfield.  His parents were William Hindhaugh b 1838 in Long Horsley/Rothbury Northumberland and Elizabeth Carr b 1845 in Tweedmouth Northumberland.   On the 1891 census he is listed as Hendhaugh still living in Tanfield with Mam and Dad and is shown as a Theological Student.  His Grandfather was called Robert so that might tie in with the childrens names.

Cant find him anywhere on the 1901 census and searched for George 1868 +/-2 keyword Durham

Hi

John Stephensons 2nd wife Mary URWIN was previously married to Thomas STEPHENSON b c1813 Easington, they had 5 children as far as I can figure out.

Thomas was previously married to a Jane SIDDLE b 1818 Easington.   They had 3 children, Thomas b1837, John Shotton b 1840 and Jane bor and died1842 .  His wife Jane also died at about the same time then he married Mary on 4 Mar 1844.  Thomas died in Apr 1857 and then Mary married John Stephenson in 1st Qtr 1861.

This has been an absolute nightmare to sort out but with many baptism, marriage and death records from Durham Records Online I think (unless you know different LOL) I have sorted it.

My main interest is in John Shotton Stephenson.

As far as I know Mary URWIN did not have any children with John Stephenson and the identies as Step/Natural children have got slightly mixed up on the census.

BTW Hannah Siddles father was called Thomas Siddle b1791 Chopwell, died 1856 in Easington.   Jane Siddles mother was called Hannah so I suspect that Jane and Hannah were sister and Thomas and Hannah were the parents although I havent managed to connect them up yet.

Dumfriesshire / John Hall - Dumfries
« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 12:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi

At last I have my first Scottish Ancestor my 3rd Great Grandfather John Hall born 1795 in Dumfries.  He states this on all Census transcriptions I have seen not just entering Scotland as most do.  Never having ventured past the border whilst researching I am now at a standstill

He married a Ann Harle in Newcastle in Jun 1823 and produced 3 little Halls and was a Customs Officer/Tide Waiter from at least 1841 till 1871

Can anyone help me on finding his parents or pointing me in the right direction, I have spent a fair amount of time googling and checking a lot of Dumfries links and come up with a blank.

Any help/hints/tips would be appreciated

John Hall

Marks and Sparks is only 3 mins walk from the Civic Centre with a nice pub about halfway.

For BMDs at the Civic Centre I ordered 3 yesterday afternoon at 3.30pm and they came with the first post at 6.45am this morning.   You can also order them and pick them up the next day but its best to print off the request form from the civic centre search site and have everyything ready.

Dont forget the Tyne and Wear Archives, its amazing what you can find there.   I just do the searches at home and then take in a print of each document you want to see and they get the stuff from the archives pretty quick.   One tip is to take a digital camera to take pics of everything you want as they charge £5 for each scan especially for photos and largish docs.   They have no problems with you taking photos of documents you request.

« on: Monday 23 May 05 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Would some kind person please tell me any information they can on the following:

Robert Hall married Sarah Gregg on 15 May 1843 their fathers were:

John HALL, born 1805 (could be a lot sooner but not much later) he lived in Forth St, Newcastle in 1843, was listed as a Customs House Officer and probably Robert born c1825 living with him, Robert was listed as a Brushmaker.

William Gregg, birth year not known but probably same roughly as John above, he lived in Rosemary Terrace, Newcastle and was listed as a Cork Cutter (new one on me)

any information on the above John or William would be greatly appreciated.

I have Robert in the 1851 census and onwards thru 1891

Durham Lookup Requests / 1851 Census Lookup - Stockton - Robert Hall
« on: Saturday 30 April 05 04:34 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a Robert Hall Occupation Brushmaker born c 1825 Northumberland (probably Newcastle)

He married a Sarah Gregg in 1843 in Newcastle they had a child Sarah quite soon after their marriage but not sure of date.   They had at least 3 children in Stockton, twin boys born in 1853 John and William E and Elizabeth in 1855.  The last 3 children were born in Paradise Street, Stockton.  Cant find any trace of William E in 1871 census so maybe he didnt survive childhood and nobody has ever mentioned him in my family.

Dont know when he moved to Stockton and would like to know if they were in Stockton in 1851.

Thanking you in anticipation

Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: Has anyone found family links to Tanfield?

I have links also

David Kirkup - Lintz Hall Farm - moved there about 1860s, via Gateshead and originating in Brough Cumberland.

Offspring married into the Hindhaughs and their offspring into the Armstrong x 2, Heron and a couple of others who looked as though they wandered in from Mackem Country.
